I cling to his large frame and writhe around in his arms, not even caring how desperate I look. Walker crashes his lips down on mine, seemingly just as desperate as I am. He holds me up with an arm under my thighs, while trailing his other hand up my torso. The very tips of his fingers graze the curve of my breast, then go higher, until he wraps his hand around my throat.

Walker squeezes lightly, letting me know he’s in charge. Fuck, how does he know that’s exactly what I need? I didn’t even know until this very moment. I moan into his mouth as liquid heat courses through my veins and leaks out of my throbbing pussy. I’ve never felt so empty before. Never felt the need to be filled completely, to be connected to another person on the most intimate level.

“Fuck,” he mumbles, releasing his hold on my throat. I whimper at the loss, making him curse again. Walker buries his face in the side of my neck, breathing me in as he holds me close. It’s such a tender moment between us. He’s letting me know he’ll take care of me in this way, too.

He has to practically pry my legs from around his torso before setting me down on the ground. The imposing, complicated man takes my face in his hands, holding me as if I’m precious and delicate. He leans down and brushes the sweetest of kisses onto my lips before pulling back.

“I have to get back to work,” he says, his voice full of regret. “Let’s get you inside, pixie.” Walker reaches behind me to open up the window more. He spins me around once again and lifts me up as if I weigh nothing, making it easier for me to climb through the window. “Lock the windows,” he commands once I’m inside.

“Yes, sir,” I say in a stern, mocking voice. Walker’s eyes flash with a dark desire, and God, I feel the wicked look from head to toe.

“Careful, sweetheart,” he growls softly. “You’re not ready for what that does to me. What that makes me want to do to you.”

“I…” The protest dies on my lips. How do I tell him I want that very, very much?

“Lock up, Indie. I’ll see you soon.” With that, Walker heads back to his car. He waits in the driveway until I lock the window that I just climbed through...and the other window that he somehow knew was unlocked as well. When he finally drives away, I slump against the door. Good God, that man is going to ruin me. I can’t wait.

CHAPTER FIVE

INDIE

“Indie! Wake up!”

Melissa’s voice rings out in the small cabin, pulling me from my sleep. I look over at the clock on my nightstand – six in the morning. In other words, too damn early. I flop back down on my pillow and pull the blankets over my head. I’m many things, but a morning person I am most certainly not.

“Indigo Wright, get your butt out here and tell me what all of this is!”

I groan, not understanding what she’s talking about and too tired to try and figure it out. I know my sister, though. She won’t let this go until she gets answers. I huff out a breath and scrub sleep from my eyes before stepping into my fuzzy slippers and throwing on a robe.

"What are you talking about…" I trail off as I look at the pile of presents currently sitting on the living room floor. "What is all this?"

“That’s what I’m asking you! What did you do yesterday? You were supposed to be looking for a job, not spending all our money on gifts.”

I glare at my sister and cross my arms over my chest. I know I’m a little impulsive, but I’m not stupid and careless. “I did find a job,” I mutter. “And I have no idea what this stuff is.”

Melissa’s face softens and she comes over to give me a hug. I wrap my arms around her because I’m a softie and I can’t stay mad at anyone for too long. “I’m sorry,” she whispers. “I’m so stressed out and scatterbrained. I didn’t mean to jump to the worst conclusion.”

I nod, giving her a final squeeze before letting go. I don’t tell her that I’m stressed, too. That I’ve been stressed trying to be whatever she needs, and I have no idea what I’m doing, but I know I need to do it. She doesn’t need that burden right now.

“So, you didn’t buy us presents. And I didn’t buy us presents. What are they doing here?” I ask.

"I don't know. I got up to check on Carson and saw some stuff on the front porch. When I opened the door, there was a stack of perfectly wrapped gifts." Her face turns from puzzled to wide-eyed and panicky. "Do you think there are bombs inside?!"

I bark out a laugh, making Melissa shove me in the shoulder. “No, Mel, I don’t think someone wrapped up ten boxes of bombs and set them on our front porch.” We both laugh at the ridiculousness of her suggestion.

“Alright then. Let’s open them!”

I’m ridiculously happy when a genuine, excited smile spreads across her face. I have no idea what the gifts are or who gave them to us, but I’ll be forever grateful to the person who put it there.

Upon further inspection, each box is assigned to either me, Melissa, or Carson. Melissa goes first, unwrapping the first package. She pulls out a beautiful black peacoat that looks warm and cozy, yet sleek and professional so she can wear it to the office. I watch in awed silence as she tears through her packages. One has gloves and a hat, another has several colorful knitted scarves, and the last one has sturdy black winter boots that match her coat.

We’re completely silent as she starts in on the gifts labeled for Carson. He also got a new coat – which looks far more expensive than the secondhand one we got him when we moved here. Carson also got a hat, gloves, and warm little booties. By the time Melissa is done, tears are streaming down her face.

“Who would do this?” she whispers. I know who did this. I still can’t believe it, but I know it’s true. “Are you going to open yours?”

I nod and carefully open my gifts. I also got a coat, but mine is colorful and has a big hood, lined with ridiculously soft, warm fur. I love it. I love that Walker somehow knew what I would like versus what my sister would like. With each present I open, the smile on my face grows bigger and more tears gather behind my eyes. He thought of everything.

“Here, there’s one more with your name on it.”
