Whitney grinned. “I know. But the boys need to bond. Trey wanted to get Ben ready.”

Her brother was the best father ever. He’d gotten a bum rap over the situation with Ben, but he made the best of it. Whitney was lucky to have Trey, not just because he was her brother but because he was a standup guy.

“You ladies are all set,” Hannah said, the three stylists standing back. Gillian’s hair was done up fancier than she’d ever do herself, but she would admit she looked different. More stylish than she’d thought she’d ever be.

“Now we all look stunning and not just nice or pretty,” Whitney said. “And when we get these dresses on, we’re going to knock everyone’s socks off.”

Gillian stood up to walk toward her dress. Too bad there wasn’t a guy out there that she could knock the socks off of.

Two hours later, the ceremony and pictures were done. The bride and groom were going to be walking into the reception along with the wedding party.

One by one, the DJ called their names and out they went until everyone was standing around waiting for the bride and groom to come.

The music hadn’t slowed down, it was still going fast, then pink lights started to flash from the white that was going before. She had no clue what was going on until the newlyweds walked out, stopped and turned to look at the wall above them where the words “It’s a girl” were flashing in pink.

There were a lot of screams and applause over this. She’d known Whitney had wanted a child and she wasn’t shocked they didn’t wait to start trying until after the wedding.

There were tears in her eyes, and Whitney’s immediate family rushed the couple to hug them. Gillian moved right toward her brother. “How could you not tell us?”

Trey laughed. “It’s better this way. It’s been hard to keep it a secret so long, but we were going to wait until Whitney was further along anyway. This was her idea.”

“I’m going to be an auntie again,” she said, wiping a tear.

“Yes, you are,” Trey said. “You’re a great auntie too.”

She refused to tell herself that was all she might ever be.

A Lot Of Changes

“Hi, Rick, I’m Dr. Mason. It’s nice to meet you.”

Rick stuck his hand out to shake the guy’s hand. Sitting here in a gown was freaking uncomfortable, but his mother had been on his case to get a primary doctor set up now that he was back in the area. He’d put it off for weeks, but she was driving him nuts.

He didn’t think he’d get in as fast as he had, but since there was a cancellation and his schedule was somewhat flexible he’d taken it to make his mother happy.

Besides, he had been exhausted lately. Not as bad as when he was living in California. He’d written that off as stress and the move. But he’d been here for almost two months now and was sleeping more than he had before.

Robin had said she was more tired too and blamed it on the cooler weather and shorter nights. He was telling himself that was most likely the cause.

“Same,” he said.

“I’ve got the results of your blood work, but we’ll get to that after the exam. It says here you moved to the area, but we haven’t been able to get your medical records from your previous doctor.”

He put his head down. “Yeah. I never went to the doctors there.”

Dr. Mason lifted one eye at him. “How long has it been since you’ve been to a doctor?”

“I don’t know. I didn’t have a primary doctor in California. I don’t get sick often. When I did, I took some cold medicine and was fine in a few days.”

“You seem like a pretty smart man that doesn’t want to get a lecture,” Dr. Mason said.

“I am,” he said. “To both.”

Dr. Mason nodded his head. “Then let’s get on with our exam and we’ll talk.”

He sat there while he was poked and prodded. Asked a bunch of questions. Rick knew his blood pressure was high when the nurse took it and expected that to be addressed. While he’d been waiting he’d done some research on his phone and read that could cause him to be tired too.
