“I have not had a hot dog from a cart in a long time,” he says, taking a bite and groaning. “I forgot how good they are.” His excitement over it is cute. I don’t think I have ever seen a person so thrilled to eat one.

I smile, taking a bite of my own. It is strange seeing him like this because he has either been business-like or seductive, but right now he is just your average guy enjoying his day. It is nice to see this side of him. Maybe he isn’t the type of guy I thought he would be, but the rest of the day will tell me what I need to know about him.

Alanaand I are still at the park in the same spot and have been for the last few hours. We’ve only moved to either grab a coffee or use the public bathroom. I will need to go home eventually. Bella has been blowing up my phone to the extent that I had to switch it off. I needed this day to relax and hang out with Alana, to forget about the rest of my responsibilities. We haven’t even been doing much, just talking and laughing, maybe a little flirting here and there, but I have behaved myself. I am used to seeing Alana either being mad at me or becoming weak around me, but today I have seen her in a different light. Her natural personality has been shining through, and I have learned a lot about her. She is passionate and dorky all in one. It is the first time since we met that we’ve had a proper conversation and connected in a way that wasn’t sexual.

“We should probably make a move. We can’t stay here all day.” She sighs, stretching her arms up. Her tee climbs up, showing off a little skin, and I have such an urge to reach out and touch her.

“Why not? I don’t have plans. Do you?”

“No, but you have someone waiting for you, Ezra,” she answers, jumping to her feet, and wiping herself down. I hesitantly do the same. I am not ready to leave or say goodbye, but I don’t have a choice.

“Can I walk you home?” I hope she tells me yes, but I won’t hold my breath since she gets paranoid in case someone sees us together. She doesn’t answer me straight away.

“Sure,” she says with a relaxed smile. I am a little taken back by her answer, but I don’t say anything in case it makes her change her mind.

Even if someone does see us, it doesn’t matter. We could be friends. Men and women can be friends, right? We gather our garbage and dump it in the trash can on our path out of the park. We walk in silence for the first few minutes.

“Can’t we be friends?” I blurt out.

“Come on now, Ezra. You know that would never work. We would end up in bed together.” It’s not the answer I want, but she does have a point.

“Would that be such a bad thing?” I smirk, nudging her playfully.

“Yes, it would be terrible!” She giggles, nudging me back.

“Are you trying to say I am a bad lover?” I tease.

“Yes, multiple orgasms in one night, how awful.” She snickers.

I laugh loudly. “How dare I.” Alana shakes her head and rolls her eyes at me. I like how we can joke about it. She does have a point though. I don’t think we can just be friends because she is too tempting. I would have no issues with us continuing where we left off, but that is going to take more time and encouragement.

“So, no to being friends?” I ask with a pout.

“Yes. It is a no to being friends. Not because I don’t want to be, but I just know we can’t be.” She sounds disappointed.

Yeah, I won’t give up on the idea so easily, but for the rest of our time together I won’t push the issue.

“What are your plans for tonight?” I ask.

“Nothing. A night in watching crappy TV and eating ice cream. Exciting, right?” She laughs freely, I like the sound of it.

It makes me feel kind of sad she would be spending her night alone. If she’d let us be friends then she wouldn’t need to be alone. “That makes me sad. Are you sure you don’t want some company?”

“I will be fine. I am used to being on my own.” She shrugs. She is trying to act unbothered by it, but I can sense it isn’t the case. I am positive there is more to the story because those words, and the look in her eyes are things that I am familiar with.

“If you change your mind, call me, okay?” I smile.

“I don’t think that would be a good idea. What if Bella is around?” she asks nervously, chewing on her lower lip, a habit I notice she does if she feels anxious.

“Don’t worry about her, even just ring and hang up. If she is around I can go to my office and call back,” I suggest. Alana nods, diverting her attention away from me, and I take it as a hint she doesn’t want to discuss it any further.

The rest of the journey back to her place is silent.

“Maybe see you around?” she questions as we approach her apartment building.

“I hope so, but I will walk you to your door.” She rolls her eyes, opening her mouth to tell me no I assume, so I give her a stern look, and she changes her mind. I grin widely because I won.

Alana lets us into her building and I trail her up to her floor. She rests her back against her front door. “Thank you for your company today, and for not acting like your usual jackass self,” she says with a teasing tone
