He’s fuming. Livid. The green of his eyes no longer evoking the beauty of the forest but the green of envy.

I’ve never seen him so fucking jealous, and honestly, it scares me.

But he’s gone before Drago even stands, so I don’t say anything.

My Alpha Killer peers into my soul with those dark brown eyes.

“I must return to the Kootenays today to find a way to sever our claiming.”

My eyes go wide, darting from his gaze to his mouth, searching for the lie in his words. He can’t be serious.

“What? No! You can’t undo us, Drago. I won’t let you.”

A dark shadow crosses his features. His brow goes heavy, hooding his shadowed eyes. “I must, Willa. I won’t have my end be yours as well.”

“What? What does that even mean?”

He searches my face for a moment. “You don’t know?”

I shake my head, flinging water to the shower walls. “Know what?”

“If one of a claimed and bonded pair dies, the other dies as well.”

I take a breath and raise my chin, taking solace in the new information. “Then so be it. But I won’t have you undoing us.”

“Willa—”

“No.” I push past him and exit the shower. “You’re not undoing the claiming, and that’s that.”

“Willa, we need to talk about this.”

I wrap myself in a towel, grab another, and throw it at his head. Of course, Drago catches it. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

“If we don’t find a way to unmake the tether between us—”

“No!” I stomp my foot. “I can’t do this right now, Drago. OK? I can’t think or talk about what we need to do for this latest catastrophe. My headspace just can’t deal with it. There’s enough going on in our lives to keep us busy for the rest of our lives; so for now, just for a little while, can we just pretend a big cloud of doom isn’t hanging over us? Please?”

Drago’s eyes soften, and he gives me a single nod.

I let out a sigh. “Thank you. Now give me a hug before I start crying again.”

Chapter8

The Adventures of Drunk Girl and Noodle Boy

After breakfast, which Rook cooked, earning himself some extra points in the process, everyone split off. Well, everyone but Rook. He and I are sharing the clean up duty. It was only the three of us, Drago, Rook, and me, who ate, but somehow we used every dish in the place.

Why did only three of us eat?

Rafe wasn’t here when we came out of the bedroom. He wasn’t in the house at all. It’s likely there was pack business which needed attending to after he was out all day and night.

That was the logical assumption.

But I couldn’t help the sinking pit in my stomach that he was actually avoiding me. That what he saw in the shower, and Rook’s appearance, was just too much for him.

He never wanted to share me.

Jonah also hadn’t returned from wherever he went, and that was so unlike him. I sent a quick text asking where he was, but I didn’t get an answer.
