No emptiness.

It almost feels like a part of him is still with me, and that feels fucking fantastic.

So what do I do? Try to ruin it by connecting with Rafe.

Hey. I miss you.

That’s it. That’s all I say.

I keep it short and sweet and not too needy. And I try not to think about the fact that Ihaveto worry if I’m being too needy with Rafe. I push all thoughts of how strained things are between us because of his jealousy.

I’m the bigger person.

But I don’t get a single word back.

I huff out a sigh and let the jets push me around the tub before I miraculously end up over one of the cooter jets.

Imagine that.

Just what the doctor ordered.

A nice water-gasm for the frustrated omega.

Listen, I’m not recommending that you try a hot tub jet to the lady bits in your lifetime.

But I’m notnotsaying it, either.

I’ll have to shock the shit outta the water tomorrow, but it’s fucking worth it.

I get out of the water, pruned and jelly-legged from an explosive O, dry off and curl into my big empty bed with no one to keep it warm with me.

How I managed to get so out of synch with my mates, I don’t really know.

But it’s just one night.

I can sleep alone for a night. I fall asleep to Marilyn chatting away to all the gentlemen at her dinner table, like the fucking queen she was.

The next morning, I’m startled awake at the ridiculous hour of seven a.m. by a knock at my door. Today, there’s no one to nudge to answer it; so like yesterday, I trudge through the house naked and pull open the door…

To once again find the tiny witch standing at my threshold.

“Christ, aren’t witches supposed to be night owls or something?” I yawn into my fist.

“Cute,” she says with a sneer, her voice more shrill than usual. “Witches aren’t a monolith. Some are night owls, some are morning people. Just like I’m sure wolves are.”

I shake my head and walk away, leaving the door open for her to come in. Or not. I don’t care in the least.

When I return with a robe, she’s standing in my living room, a tiny fist on her tiny waist. “Where’s my brother?”

Oh fuck. What the hell was I supposed to say to Rook’s sister?

“Um, Rook went out for a fly last night. I haven’t seen him since then.”

Her eyes narrow on me, going absolutely malevolent. “What did you do to him?” she hisses between her teeth.

This time, I actually back up.

She’s really scary.
