“Uh, Mari, maybe step away from the Alpha Killing revenant before you get eaten.” Jonah tries to tuck me behind him, but what’s he gonna do? Charm his way out of this?

I clothesline him right in the abs to keep him from pushing me behind him and step closer to the crazed thing that’s taken over Drago’s body. My gaze shifts to Willa for just a moment. But it’s a moment too long.

Drago stands, dragging Willa up with him by the hair. Her face is perfectly serene and calm. She’s deep in the omega hole, and maybe that’s for the best.

I draw in a deep breath, trying to calm myself as Drago lifts her off her feet by her hair.

Willa doesn’t make a sound. She doesn’t even flinch.

“Whatever pull you have on my fucking sister, release it now, you sick, twisted fuck.”

He stares down at me, smirking as he moves Willa across his body and tucks her under his arm.

She goes ragdoll limp, arms and legs hanging as he holds her by the middle.

The monster licks his lips, and I keep myself from retching as he speaks his next words. “I had a pair of twin omegas in my pack. God, I loved fucking them together. Why don’t you come over here and complete the set for me? You’re not as soft, but I bet that cunt of yours is just as sweet.”

I have no words. The sick fuck has stunned me into silence.

A blast of black and purple light shoots across the room and clobbers Drago right in the head. “Get the fuck out of Drago’s head!”

The revenant turns, slowly. So fucking slowly. Like a horror movie villain who knows they have the upper hand. “Why? I quite like it here,” he says evenly.

My jaw falls open. He’s taken no damage from whatever Rook threw at him.

The revenant was right.

We can’t beat him.

Not even together.

JONAH

Mari finally takesme up on the offer to use me as a human shield and steps behind me. “Look, man, you’re not touching Mari, and you’re not hurting Willa. Got it?”

“And just what are you gonna do to stop me, string bean?”

“Oh, a name the kids in my pack used to make me feel small when I was twelve. That’ll really get me to change my mind. Look, buddy, you’ve got two choices here.”

“The easy way, or the hard way.” Rook finishes my sentence and comes to stand beside me, lightning crackling on his fingertips.

“You think your meager parlor tricks intimidate me? I have the magic of countless alphas coursing through my—”

Rook blasts him right in the face with a black and purple orb.

“Looks like you picked the hard way,” he says, crossing his arms.

The revenant gets knocked back a few feet, but otherwise…

“That was level one. The first one was just a warning shot. The next one will make you cry for your mommy.”

I almost chuckle at the cocky arrogance.

What can I say? It’s hot.

Drago steps forward again, and I force myself to keep my eyes off Willa’s limp body. I know she’s just retreated into omega space to keep herself safe, but I can’t stand to see her like this.

“The only thing,” the revenant snarls, “keeping me from ripping your heads off like dandelion heads is Willa wouldn’t forgive Drago for that, and I’d lose my access to her. But don’t think for a moment that I won’t seriously maim all of you if you stand in my way.”
