Then he was there, his solid, thick tip pushing into me gently, but inexorably. I never ever thought this was how it would feel, and I never imagined Achilles would be the one to make me feel this way.

Pushing in to the hilt, he stopped. “I’m afraid to move,” he whispered, and I laughed at the idea of him being afraid of anything.

“Stop,” he begged and chuckled with me. “I don’t want our first time to last thirty seconds.”

But he eased his hips back, slowly dragging his flesh against mine, and all thought of humor disappeared.

And time? I had no concept of time. Only sensation as he withdrew and thrust. I wrapped my arms around him, fingertips digging into the muscles of his back, countering every thrust with a roll of my hips. Our breathing filled the room, and the sound of our bodies coming together over and over.

We kissed and bit and pushed and held, and for once in my life, I wasn’t thinking about a million things and second-guessing myself. Achilles wouldn’t let me. He held me in place, anchored fully in the moment as we got closer and closer to the edge.

“I never imagined,” he whispered, voice breathless and trembling. “Never.”

Leaning away, our gazes locked and held as we climbed together.

The ends of his hair were beaded with sweat, and he clenched his teeth, jaw going hard as he kept up that same punishing pace.

It was so perfect it hurt. My body locked on his, clenching almost painfully as frissons of sensation built and built. I was at the edge of a cliff with nowhere to go.

But I wasn’t alone.

Achilles kissed me so gently it was at odds with the rhythm of his thrusts. One hand went to my ass, lifting me, changing the angle, and I fell.

Tumbling, breath held, stomach dropping, I went over the edge with Achilles following.

Breathless, he held me to him, hips moving slower and slower, until we were still. “Leo…”

A shrill alarm pierced the silence, and Achilles wrenched himself away from me. I heard him digging through the pile of blankets and clothes until he found his phone.

“What?” His tone was short, and he was still out of breath.

I sat up, aware of the wetness between my legs. Moving toward the pillows, I tucked the sheet under my arms and sat against the headboard. Achilles’ shadow paced until he suddenly paused, sucked in a breath, and began to pull on his clothes. “I’m with Leo. It’ll take me fifteen minutes, half an hour to get there. Wait for me.”

I wished I could hear the voice on the other end. Was it Pollux?

Pollux.

Alone in my bed, watching him dress and now shove his feet into his boots, the enormity of what I did hit me.

I hadn’t felt anything but sheer joy, and a beautiful pause in the constant commentary in my head.

Well, my brain was making up for it now.

Achilles ended the call without another word and paused. Shoving the phone into his pants, he let out a breath. “Leo.”

“You have to go.” I had gathered that much from his side of the conversation.

“Not because I want to.” It was the exact right thing to say, but still… It didn’t change the fact that he’d be on his way and I’d be here, over-analyzing everything.

“I have a committee meeting tomorrow,” I reminded him. “So I won’t be answering my phone, in case you call.”

He sat and leaned to kiss me. One hand cupped my cheek before sliding to my shoulder. “I know where to find you.”

True enough. I wanted to ask what was going on, but I didn’t. Looking back, I should have, but in that moment, I was off-kilter. “Okay.”

One more press of lips against lips, and that was it. He was gone, closing the door behind him, and I was alone.

Just me and my overactive brain.
