“BJ, Marcela, will you head out and grab some more of that coffee for all of us and some breakfast, please?” Stryker asks.

“Sure thing, sweet cheeks, let’s roll, miss grouchy britches,” BJ smiles at us while wrapping her arm in Marcela’s and dragging her to the door.

Sometime later, we all hear the car pull up and two loud car door slams. Then BJ storms in as if she were on a life-or-death mission.

“Howdy, Hoe Bros! And Hoe!” she yells out, laughing at herself, and Alexie laughs along with her.

She’s hauling in a huge spread of what seems like thirty types of bagels and a bunch of cream cheese varieties. Marcela is trailing behind her with two large trays of those white and green coffee cups. It smells heavenly.

I start to speak up, saying, “Hey now, Nat is not a–” but I am interrupted by Nat’s hand coming down on my shoulder.

“It’s fine, Conrad. I know she’s just teasing me. Plus, it’s funny and kinda accurate. I mean, I am with all of you.” Nat starts to laugh at the comment now too.

After setting the coffee down on the table, Marcela almost gets jumped by everyone trying to get to the coffee. She pushes through the caffeine-craving crowd, making her way to her usual seat, and sits down.

“Sooooo, that’s it? You all know what she did, but the pussy is so good that we’re forgetting she betrayed us all?” She looks over to glare daggers at King. “Even you? Do you actually forgive her?!”

“Calm down Marcela, damn.” Alexie laughs before speaking again, “By the look of things, you’re the only one still holding grudges.” His words are like silk leaving his tongue.

I’m definitely jealous of the calm Alexie exudes so easily, all the time, even when trying to kill someone.

“Malyshkaonly did what she had to do to stay alive.” He gestures over to Nat. “She told you all about me and Katia… correct?” he asks, looking at Marcela, waiting for her response.

“Well, yeah. She did, but that wasn’t the whole story. She still deceived us,” Marcela replies in an annoyed tone.

“She only changed our names to Alex and Katie, and she was just as shocked at seeing Katia alive. You can’t fault her for that, how would you have felt?” Marcela nods her head at Alexie like it’s finally starting to sink in a bit.

Alexie doesn’t stop there and goes on to say, “We were both told she was dead. We went to the fuckingfuneral. Plus, she hadn’t seen me since that day.” Alexie walks over to where Nat is sitting and wraps his hands around her upper arms in a possessive but comforting way.

“I promised her I would find out who did this to Katia, but when I overheard my father talking about being into trafficking, I had to divert and investigate. She had no idea where I was! Also, she has shown the boyfriends here the texts she was receiving threatening YOU and the rest of the team if she didn’t comply.” Alexie ends his rant with a look at me to confirm the validity of what he’s saying.

“He’s right, I went through her phone, even cracked her EyeSpy. It’s all true, she never gave any info to Volkov,” I confirm.

You can tell Marcela is finally letting her guard back down as her body finally relaxes, and the scowl that’s been permanently attached to her face lately smoothes out. She looks among the room, scanning our faces and stopping on BJ, asking, “And you’re good with her too?”

“Oh, honey, nothing has ever changed for me. Our girl, Nat, is well on her way to becoming one of my favorite BFFs,” BJ replies with a wink toward Nat and Alexie.

Marcela lets out one of the most dramatic sighs I have ever heard. “FINE! FINE! FINE! I’ll curb my anger and try to move on.” She looks at Nat again and puts her finger up like she’s about to lecture her. “But if anything else comes to light, or you fuck us again, I’m killing you myself.” She lets a small smile slip.

“I’d like to see you try. You all still underestimate myZaychik,” Alexie scoffs.

“I am more than capable, I assure you, Volkov,” Marcela responds in a sassy-as-fuck tone.

“Clearly,Malyshkahas been downplaying her abilities. I can’t wait to see all your faces when you see what she can actually do,” Alexie just smirks back at her.

I decided to interrupt the pissing match before it can continue. “Alright, guys, can we all relax? I just got an email from the board. Why don’t we all take a look?” Everyone nods in agreement.

The projector and everything from the other day is still set up, so I project my laptop screen on the wall for everyone to see. I click on the video attachment in the email to open it up and press play.

Everyone turns to the wall to watch when we start hearing voices from the video. It is the board, all five of them, two men and three women, sitting around a table like ours. Obviously, it is in a more professional setting, not in a safe house, wearing pajamas while pigging out on bagels and fancy coffee.

The Director of the board, a beautiful middle-aged woman, stands up and begins to speak.

“Morning, Elite. First of all, we want to say thank you for all your hard work and persistence on this case. We also would like to apologize for trusting Ingram and listening to him try allowing him to sway our opinion that this team is unruly. Also, for not stepping in sooner or making more of an effort to investigate the mole accusation.” She gracefully sits down and gestures to the man on her right side to continue.

A tall, tan-skinned man with salt and pepper hair and tidy facial hair to match stands up next to her, straightens out his suit, and re-buttons his jacket before speaking.

“We have all listened to the recordings Conrad, so graciously, sent over recounting the events that transpired yesterday. We also had one of our experts go over the recordings just to make sure nothing was manipulated. After our review, we are all in agreement that Ingram’s death, while not appropriate, was justified in our opinion. We will clean and cover up the mess. You are all officially cleared of any wrongdoing.” He nods his head to his left, back to the director so she can continue.
