“I thinkIwant some meatballs too. You up for some on our pizza?” Dakota picked up the menu.

“Absolutely. There hasn’t been anything I haven’t liked on Kyle’s pizza.”

“Well, I like hearing that.” Kyle scooted into the booth beside Leah as he shook Dakota’s hand.

A moment later, Heidi joined them on Dakota’s side of the booth. “Hey, kids.”

“What are you doing here?” Leah asked.

“Sometimes on Friday nights my lovely bride joins me here to help out.” Kyle took Heidi’s hand across the table.

“It’s a good way to squeeze in a dinner date,” Heidi said. “Between him coming out to oversee things and schmooze with special customers,” she freed her hand from Kyle’s and motioned to them, “we eat dinner together.”

“Sometimes we make out a little in the back.” Kyle winked at his wife.

“La-la-la-la,” Dakota sang as he plugged his ears. “Too much information.”

“No, it isn’t,” Heidi said.

Kyle nodded. “Yeah, I didn’t tell you what we do in the supply closet.”

Heidi picked up Dakota’s napkin, crumpled it, and fired it at her husband. “That’s top secret, Kyle.”

“Right.” Kyle turned an imaginary key at the corner of his mouth.

“You’d better give that key here.” Heidi held out her hand and wiggled her fingers.

Kyle slapped her palm. “Tyrant.”

“You like that about me.” Heidi turned her attention to Leah. “I see you’re still wearing our art project.”

Leah glared at Dakota.

“My fault,” he said.

“I wanted to change.Beggedto change, but someone wouldn’t let me.”

“Mountain View Pizza is no formal establishment,” Kyle said.

Dakota nearly spit out the big sip of water he’d taken. “I said the same thing.”

“Like word for word.” Leah turned to look at Kyle beside her.

“That’s not that weird.” Heidi pointed a finger at the two men. “Males have only a limited number of sentences their tiny brains are capable of composing. These two were bound to have the same thought sooner or later.”

“Ouch, babe.” Kyle held his hand to his chest. “Can you guess what I’m thinking right now?”

“Yes, but I can’t say it aloud.” She arced an arm out toward the rest of the restaurant. “There are children around.” Heidi blew Kyle a kiss then looked at Dakota. “So what have you two been up to since Leah pedaled-to-the-metal out of the parking lot directly after school?”

“Shit,” Leah whispered. “Was I that obvious?”

“It was the screeching tires that drew attention. We all watched you peel out on two wheels from the teachers’ room.”

Heidi, Kyle, and Dakota laughed as Leah’s cheeks burned. She’d told Dakota she’d been eager to see him, but she hadn’t wanted the entire school staff to know.Jeez.

“We’ve been hiking, playing with Ginger,” Dakota said, coming to her rescue.

She shot him a quick glance, loving the way his mouth turned up slightly at the left corner. She couldn’t wait to be kissing that mouth again.
