“What’s more important than the well-being of your faithful furry companion?” she asked, but Leah’s eyes were deep blue pools focused on his mouth. There was no doubt she could feel his erection pressing into her. No doubt what was more important to him.

“Correct me if I’m wrong,” he said, “but I seem to recall a mention of a vertical adventure. Do you remember that as well?”

The grin that slid across her face made his arousal spike. Heat flared throughout his body, and though the travel discussion from earlier in the evening still cycled around in the recesses of his brain, ninety-nine percent of his energy was laser focused on that vertical adventure challenge.

“I do remember that topic, yes.” Leah unbuttoned his flannel coat and let it slide off his shoulders. She wasted no time removing his thermal T-shirt. She let both fall to the kitchen floor. Then she backed up, took off her fleece jacket, and slipped off her boots. She shimmied out of her jeans and pushed everything into the pile with her foot. A foot covered in a mallard-print sock.

“Where do you find this stuff?” He chuckled and pointed to her feet.

She turned a foot one way then the other to model the crazy sock. “The Wonderful World Wide Web, of course.”

“So you actually typed inmallard socks? You searched for them specifically?” Why did he find that so adorable?

“Sure. What other socks would go with my moose and bear boots?”

“You’re a little bit zany,” he said. “You know that, right?”

“Zany and proud.” She puffed out her chest, making her breasts strain against her sweatshirt. “What do you think? Should I leave the super hot, paint-stained sweatshirt on? Is it doing it for you? Is it?” She picked up the hem of the sweatshirt and teased him by inching it up to slowly reveal that slender, oh-so-touchable waist of hers.

“Lose it. Now.”

In one smooth tug, she rid herself of the sweatshirt and stood in his kitchen in her bra and panties. The light purple shade of both complemented her pale skin beautifully. All she needed was a pair of white angel wings and she’d have been every guy’s fantasy made real. Plus mallard socks.

Hell, she doesn’t even need the wings.

Staring at her now, Dakota came to realize two things. One, his body physicallyneededto be near Leah’s. Even a kitchen’s distance between them was too much. He wanted his flesh smooshed against her flesh. As much as possible.

And two, it was possible—likely, in fact—he was falling in love with Leah Greenstead. Everything about her drew him in, from her natural beauty to her silly themed clothing choices to her concern over his dog’s eating habits to the fact that she’d chosenhimafter enduring such a horrible tragedy. He was more convinced than ever that Leah was his heart match. He’d have to talk to his mom more about this later. She always had the right advice.

But right now he planned to pleasure every inch of the beautiful woman standing before him.

“You need to lose some things too.” Leah sashayed over to him, her lovely hips swaying enough to hypnotize him. “I need to see that tattoo again so it can point me in the right direction.”

“South. Go south.”

Laughing, she slid his T-shirt up his abs, past his ribs, then over his shoulders and head. She balled up the shirt and threw it like a basketball on top of the discarded clothing pile.

“Two points.” He high-fived both of her hands above their heads then let his hands glide down her arms to rest on her hips. He pulled her up against him, relishing the warmth of her flesh against his. Trailing kisses along her shoulder to the curve of her neck, he absolutely loved it when she shuddered in his hold. “You like that?”

“It’s okay, I guess.” She unbuttoned and unzipped his cargo pants then pushed them down his legs along with his boxer shorts.

“Hmm… just okay?” He stepped out of his pants and boxers and pulled off his socks. “What about this?” He let his hands slide down lower to cup her ass cheeks. He pressed her closer so her hips ground against him, and when a little gasp sounded from her throat, Dakota knew Leah was better thanokay.

“Maybe you know what you’re doing here.” The words sounded more like the purr of a big jungle cat than anything human.

He slid her panties off then unhooked her bra, adding them to the heap of clothes on the kitchen floor. “I haven’t shown you all my tricks yet.”

“You have more? That’s impressive. I seem to recall having a wonderful time with the tricks you’ve already displayed, Dakota.” She let her fingers trail along his shoulders and biceps, her touch feather light yet awakening all parts of him.

“Those were all my horizontal tricks. I think you’re ready for the advanced vertical ones tonight.” He’d picked out the wall in the living room he wanted to take her against.

“You actually have vertical tricks too?” She clapped then went back to teasing his nerve endings with her fingertips. When she ran her tongue over the compass rose of his tattoo and lingered on his nipple, he couldn’t wait any more.

“God, I hope so.” He grabbed her hand, dug around for a condom in his pants on the floor while she pulled off her socks, and marched them—naked—out to the living room.

Tearing open the packet and sheathing himself, he locked his gaze on her. “This is going to be intense, Leah. I want you so much. I don’t think I can do gentle right now.”

Her eyes darkened a shade as her lips turned up at the corners. “I won’t break. And I…” She looked to the floor for a moment then met his gaze straight on. “I trust you.”
