Her eyes softened, and she smiled. It was a small but sweet smile, one that warmed her from the inside out. Owen felt the connection between them like a palpable force as his emotions echoed hers.

“I’d like to get to know you too,” Reika said. Owen grinned and gestured toward the open patio balcony on the first floor, grabbing his phone to order a pizza. As Reika sat, he brought over the white wine, hoping that the quality of the food and drink … as well as his company … would be enough to convince her to stay late into the night.

NINE

REIKA

Reika knew she should go. As the moon lit the sky, she let Owen fill her glass again and again, telling herself every time that she’d have “just one more” then go. The trouble was, she couldn’t leave. It was like she was addicted to the gentle depth of his glowing copper eyes, the quick movements of his beautiful, long-fingered hands. There was an energy about him, something bright and warm that enveloped her and muddled her brain.

Maybe, it’s just the wine.

The dry white wine was incredibly good, light, and crisp with a delicate flavor. She knew that wine had never intoxicated her like this before, though.

As they moved from the patio to the couch, Reika noticed the sky was now completely dark. She deliberately did not look at her phone or any clocks … she didn’t want to remind herself how late it was. Even as she sat on the couch and let Owen refill her glass, she told herself this was the last one.

You liar.

As she sat back on the deep, soft couch, Owen tipped the bottle up completely over her upraised glass and let the last of the wine trickle out.

“That’s it,” he said, grinning. “We finished the white. Do you want to start on the red?”

Reika laughed. “No way. I’ve had quite enough, thank you,” she said, grinning. Her heart was pounding so hard that she was starting to feel a little breathless, and heat was gathering in her chest, throat, and temples. The night was cool, though, with a steady breeze blowing in from the open balcony doors.

It’s not the temperature. It’s this incredible, smoldering hunk of hotness sitting way too close to me.

Now that they were on the couch, he really was way too close. Reika clung to her glass of wine, looking over it into Owen’s eyes as if it was a shield that could stop her from diving into his lap. She took another sip, and her head swam even more, so she put the glass on the table and tried to gain control of herself.

When she eased back onto the cushions and looked at Owen, he was even closer. The cushions sagged under his weight as if the furniture was conspiring against her. Reika gulped, knowing she couldn’t fight this.

From the first moment she’d seen him, she’d been entranced. The annoying, know-it-all smirk was really adorable when it was matched by the glint of mischief in those deep eyes. In the darkness of the room, his eyes looked night-dark and shadowed, a place in which she could be lost forever.

Reika felt him leaning forward and reached out, closing her eyes as she turned her face up to his. She couldn’t remember what they had been talking about, and by now, it didn’t matter.

I know why I came here. Because my body's screaming for him as deep down as my bones, and I can’t resist this!

When his lips met hers, the reaction in her was electric. Arousal shot through her in a bolt of heat that stiffened her nipples and made her clit throb. She grabbed his robe by the shoulders and tugged him to her as she leaned back. He moaned through the kiss as he fell on top of her and the ecstasy that flooded her made her writhe underneath him.

Reika opened herself to him, letting the wine destroy the last of her inhibitions. She wrapped her legs around him and opened her mouth, submitting to him completely as he began to run his beautiful, strong hands all over her.

One of his powerful arms wrapped around her back, crushing her against his chest as one hand dove between her legs and teased her through her clothes. Reika shrieked and thrust her hips forward, begging for more. He pulled back, and he was wearing that gorgeous grin again.

Normally, a look like that on a guy’s face would irritate her enough to slap it right off.

So why do I find this the cutest thing I’ve ever fucking seen?

Her fingers tightened on his robe, and a small cry of need slipped out of her lips. Thought was being obliterated under the warm, heavy weight of his body on top of hers. The feel of him between her legs was setting her skin on fire. She felt like the offending clothes keeping them apart might actually spontaneously combust under the force of her will.

She tugged at the robe, frowning.

“Off, get it off!” she cried desperately. His grin widened, and she gasped at the realization that the more confident he became, the more gorgeous that smile was.

Owen sat up and pushed the robe open slowly. Reika’s eyes were locked on those beautiful big hands as she watched each inch of skin revealed. He only managed to expose a small section of his chest before she sat up and tore at him with her nails, crying out as she pushed the fabric off his shoulders and left his entire upper half exposed.

Reika struggled with her own clothes, reaching for his terrycloth belt with one hand. The wine had muddled her brain, and the only thing she was truly aware of was the red-hot desire pouring through her, making her insides ache and throb more powerfully than ever before.

When he bent down to kiss her, she felt his skin against her own and felt a moment of triumph that she’d managed to get her clothes off without much effort.

Maybe, he cut them off. I’m too anxious to know the difference.
