The men placed a hood over her face and grabbed her by her ankles and wrists. She shook and tried to scream, but they had thrown her quickly into the van. The street was empty enough for no one to realize anything had happened at all.

Reika’s heart slammed in her chest as she tried to bang around inside the van. Her wrists and ankles had been bound, so she could barely move. The hood around her face was also tied tight, so if she shifted, it wasn’t assured that she would be able to break free.

She tried to calm herself as they sped on. Only about ten minutes after being taken, the van stopped. Reika couldn’t see anything from beneath the hood, but she could smell the tangy zest of the men’s sweat. She continued to try shaking herself from their grip, but she had no clue where she was. They placed her inside a space that smelled of the forest, dropping her onto what felt like an old mattress.

“Fucking cowards!” Reika screamed out.

The binds on her wrists and ankles were no longer restricting, and she wondered if they were releasing her. She heard a door slam, then began pulling apart her bindings, shifting to get free. They ripped easily, which allowed her to remove the hood from her head.

She was a wolf, so her vision was able to adjust rather quickly. She realized that she was in the woods, thrown into an empty cabin. She shifted quickly after removing her clothing, crawling around the area, and breathing in the mix of scents.

Reika went to the windows and doors and found that each of them was boarded shut. She tried to rip them with her claws, her teeth, and despite her awesome strength, none of them would budge.

She shifted back into her human form and dressed. She tried again to pull at the boards but realized that they were intensely layered. She huffed, shaking the walls and door.

Reika walked around the cabin and looked through the small kitchen area.

Out of habit, she opened the fridge and was shocked to find fresh vegetables and water. She frowned and searched through the cabinets. They, too, were stocked with food, this time non-perishables like soup, canned peaches, and pasta sauce.

She gazed around the cabin to try to understand what the hell was going on. She had been taken off the streets, yet the food was being provided for her.

She went back to the window and tried to lift the board even slightly to peer outside.

The board snapped tightly on the tips of her fingers, crushing them briefly but painfully. “Fuck!” she bellowed, pulling her fingers out.

She resorted to turning on the sink and running her wounds beneath it. Her anxiety had dimmed for the time being, but she was still on alert, waiting for the next confusing occurrence.

Did her kidnapping have anything to do with Owen?

Were these people from the Raff pack keeping her alive to make an example out of her?

She went into the cabinet, feeling suddenly hungry. She popped a can of peaches open and began scooping them into her mouth ravenously.

Reika slid down onto her butt and leaned against the fridge, facing the door for any potential movement.

Owen

Owen continued scouringthe city for Reika, sniffing at her tantalizing scent. It was strong and fragrant in the air, floral and appetizing. But Owen couldn’t get too strung up by his attraction to Reika. He needed to make sure she was okay before anything happened.

He managed to find where she worked, then shifted back into a human. It was a cafe down by the water, a small joint with lots of customers. He stood in line anxiously, not wanting to make a scene or appear out of the ordinary. The Raff family had people everywhere.

Owen asked the person who appeared to be the owner or a manager. The woman shrugged, then gave him an intense scowl. “She hasn’t been here in days,” the woman huffed. “So when you find her, tell her she’s fired.”

That wasn’t a good sign to Owen. Unless she was a woman who went from job to job, not really caring about keeping anything steady. But Owen could sense even after only meeting her once that it wasn’t the case.

She seemed like a person who was determined and focused, even if that meant working at a little cafe. Something had driven her to stay there rather than remain with her own pack.

He shifted back into his wolf form, moving through backstreets, searching for her. He tried to get her address from the owner, but the owner had refused to give out any of that information.

So Owen continued on, following her scent into the dead of night. He was a good tracker, so when he finally came upon her magnificent essence, it was lingering just outside a sketchy apartment building. He shifted before entering, making sure to get dressed before he scaled the walls.

Owen used his animal strength to pull him up the pipes that led directly to the third floor. He hopped over the balcony, feeling her scent engulf him as he slid the glass doors open.

He shifted back into his wolf form to search the apartment for clues. Judging just from the scent, she hadn’t been home for a few days. Considering that and what her employer had told him, Owen was starting to worry.

He began to wonder if his father had captured her before he had the chance to save her. He felt his stomach sink like a stone dropped from a high distance, feeling like he had already failed the incredible woman he had just met.

It hadn’t just been the sex for him. There was something else, something he was too afraid to admit just yet.
