Page 26 of Always Him

I mean, I sort of lifted weights…kind of moved them from one spot to another, and then spent the rest of my time just avoiding the treadmills. I’ve always loved running, but I just can’t manage it yet. I’ll start that up again when I’m fitted for my new prosthetic. But who knows when that will be.

Instead, I watched Finn’s arms slice in and out of the water as his body glided from one end of the pool to the other. It never gets old, watching the way he moves.

“Your dad just said to get red wine.”

“Yes, but there are a bazillion, and since when does he drink wine?” I ask, scrunching up my nose at the selection. Actually, my dad said to get the “fancy” red wine, whatever that means. I think he’s just trying to impress my brother’s boyfriend, Theo. The two of them are visiting today and my dad is going a little crazy.

He stayed up late building another addition to the kitty hotel. Like it isn’t big enough already. It takes up half the wall.

Now he’s baking up a storm. Finn and I don’t get this fanfare when we visit. Maybe we should both move away and only come home every once in a while. I want cake and cookies when I come over.

“He wants us to get it because Theo mentioned that he wanted some at Christmas. Don’t know why he can’t just have beer like the rest of us,” Finn grumbles.

I glance back at Finn and see his scowl. “He’s just trying to be accommodating. Don’t be such a boob about it.”

Finn’s eyebrows lower even more and then he sighs, running a hand over his face. “You’re right. God, I’m turning into my dad, aren’t I? Shit, I said I’d never let that happen…”

I smile at him and run my finger over the deep crease in-between his eyes.

“You kind of are, but you’re adorable. Such a grumpy old man.”

He pulls me into him and rests his head on mine. “Shut up. I’m going to have an attitude change, okay? I willnotbe like him.”

I snort as he moves away from me, grabbing onto a random bottle.

“Just get this one. I’m making an executive decision because if I don’t, we will be here all day. And it’s not in a box, so it’s fancy enough,” he says.

“Yeah, you’re right. Good plan. Let’s grab a few more. That way Theo has options.”

Finn sets four more bottles in the basket, and I stare down at them before grabbing two more for good measure, and then we make our way to the counter.

“What are the chances your dad starts growing grapes for wine after this week? He had that crazed look in his eyes when Theo mentioned it,” Finn asks.

“Oh, I’d say pretty good. Although mom might kill him if he takes on another project.”

Finn sets the basket on the counter and pulls out his credit card to pay for it. I’m not twenty-one yet, so he still has to do this shit for me. Soon enough though. I can’t wait to see what Finn has planned for me.

“Oh. Romantic night or party animals?” the man behind the counter asks as he starts scanning the wine bottles.

I lean into Finn and bat my eyelashes. “Romantic night. This man is going to take me home, get me wasted, and make me beg for it.”

“Jesus, Landon,” Finn mutters under his breath, his hand tightening on my waist. “Ignore him,” Finn tells the cashier.

The man just smirks and waggles his eyebrows. “Oh. I can’t ignore that. I love dubcon. You two have all the fun.”

“Oh, you know it,” I say and then grab the box stuffed with wine bottles. Finn reaches out and pulls them from my arms.

“You do that shit just to fuck with me, I know it,” he mutters. “And what the hell is dubcon?”

“Dubious consent. Like, if you get me drunk and fuck me then consent can be a little unclear.”

“Oh my god.”

“I know. I mean, I think it’s kind of hot, to be honest. If we were together and you wanted to fuck me after a few drinks, I’d be down. Just bend me over, Finn, stick it right in.” I bump his hip and waggle my eyebrows at him.

“Stop saying shit like that,” he grits out and I cackle. I love seeing him all flustered like this.

The bottles clink lightly as we make our way to his car, and he stuffs them into his trunk.
