Page 96 of Always Him

“Will we be staying there?” I ask.

Finn stares at me and I nuzzle against him.

“I want to keep that a secret at least,” he tells me, his pinkie sliding down the front of my pants.

My dick lengthens in response, wanting to be touched.

My mom mutters under her breath and then yells, “Vincent, not the hose!”

Vincent bleats forlornly when my mom wrestles it from his little goat teeth. Then he headbutts her ankles again.

“You should break him of that habit,” Logan says, and my mom sends him a death glare.

“Do not talk to me about parenting the goat.”

My brother gives her this goofy smile, finishing off his celery with a crunch.

“Just trying to be helpful,” he replies, and my mom sighs and gulps down some more wine.

“Yeah, right, okay,” she mutters and then meets my stare. “Let’s change the subject before I say something not nice…. Your birthday is coming up, Landon, what do you want to do?”

I shrug, not really having put much thought into it.

“Come on, man, you’re turning twenty-one. You have to want to do something,” Logan says.

My mom holds her mug out toward Finn. “I don’t know why I even ask when we all know Finn probably has it all planned out already. Care to share with the class?”

I glance up at Finn. “Is that true?”

His eyes narrow and I wiggle in his lap a little. Oh, he so does. I mean, he always does. But I like to pretend I’m surprised.

“Yeah, I guess he does,” I tell my mom and Finn sighs heavily behind me.

“I have some ideas because we all know Landon won’t make a decision.”

“Hey,” I say with a laugh. “I just can’t make up my mind. You know this.”

“Well, share those ideas, Finn,” my mom says. “We want to know.”

“Well, I was doing some research and there’s this escape room…” Finn begins as my dad walks upstairs to the patio with Theo.

“Oh, an escape room,” my dad interrupts and thumps Logan on the shoulder. “You know how scared Logan gets with those.”

Theo eyes his boyfriend in disbelief and Logan shrugs. “They’re creepy. I mean, you have to figure out the clues to get out…” He swallows and shudders. “And you’re trapped. Inside.”

“Oh my god, Logan. You’re ridiculous. They’re fun,” I say and then nudge Finn. “Go on, tell me what else.”

I’m so excited. He always plans the best stuff. One year he booked us tickets to ride a hot air balloon—you should have heard the way my dad screamed. And when Finn came home from his first year of college, he took me,just me, to Big Sur. We stayed in a lodge and hiked and justchilled.

Fuck. I am obsessed with him. How did I never know what these feelings inside of me meant?

I should have known.

“Just no escape room,” Logan blurts again and Theo nudges him.

“Logan, man, this is Landon’s birthday. It’s not all about you,” Finn tells my brother.

Logan just sighs, as if the weight of the world is on his shoulders.
