Lottie nodded. “Her name is Nova. I beg the Jovial to spare her.”

“Do you have a valid reason for this request? While we know she is not made of Beau’s blood she has been raised by him since her turning. You must understand that she will have some of his beliefs.”

“Maybe. Probably. Some, but not everything. I know her. Nova and I, we’re close.”

Sein, Wilder, and Atlas stared at Lottie with blank faces.

“Leave us, child. The Jovial will discuss and summon you when we’ve made a decision.”

Lottie nodded, her stomach in knots as she left the conference room. No matter what the decision, she wouldn’t let anyone harm Nova. She needed to find her before anyone else did.

Chapter Twelve

Once Nova decided she was monopolizing the sky lift, she got off but stayed on the roof. Getting comfortable on a bench far off in the corner, tucked behind a small hedge she finally turned her phone back on. Text messages, missed calls, and voice mail alerts flooded her. She scrolled through them quickly, only looking for anything from Lottie.

Before she could open the texts, the phone rang in her hand.

“Lottie?” she answered.

“Nova! Finally. Where are you? I need to see you right now.”

“I know. I’m so sorry, I know about everything, but I swear to you I had no idea what Cain and my father were up to. You have to believe me.”

“I do. I believe but listen to me, tell me where you are right now. I need to see you.”

“You believe me? You know?” Tears formed in her eyes.

“Nova!” Lottie yelled through the phone. “Listen to me. Where are you?” But Nova couldn’t answer, three cloaked figures stood before. One held out a hand and Nova took it.

“Nova!” Lottie yelled into the phone again as she ran through the resort lobby. She smashed the button for the sixth floor until the elevator doors finally opened. Once the doors opened again, Lottie ran directly to Nova’s suite and started banging.

“Nova! Open the door now! Nova!”

“Lottie?” Gallien the concierge stared at her. “What’s going on?”

“Have you seen Nova this morning?”

He nodded, still looking confused. “I have. She left a little over an hour ago.

“Was she alone?”

Gallien nodded again. “She was. Also, it’s none of my business but she seemed sad. Ms. Bryant always says ‘hello’ or asks how I’m doing but I don’t know if she even looked in my direction.”

‘Fuck!” Lottie yelled out, startling Gallien.

“Lottie, I hate to be the one to ask you to quiet down but it’s my job. I can’t have you up here, on this floor especially, cursing and yelling.”

She ran her hands through her hair. “I know. I know, Gallien. I’m sorry. It’s urgent that I find Nova.”

“I wish I could help but I’ve told you everything I know.”

“Thank you.” Lottie walked back toward the elevator. “One more thing, has anyone else come or gone from her room?”

Gallien stared at her, letting the seconds tick by before he answered. “This stays between us, Lottie. I don’t need this getting back to Jianna or Merlin.”

“Understood.”
