The kids thought they were being quiet, but they kept getting progressively louder as they gained their second wind. They’d probably sleep a few hours max, wake up, and be raring to go for another full day. Oh, to be young again. I was going to need at least two days to recover from this sleepover.

I heard Mark go out for the first check and all the girls pretended to be asleep. It really was cute. The next time I went out, they did the same, but I caught some of them giggling.

The rest of the night passed pretty smoothly, with the exception of one poor girl sleepwalking and getting lost in the kitchen.

Mark helped me with breakfast, and we got everyone fed and back to their parents in one piece.

The twins were ecstatic and even begged Mark to let everyone stay longer, but their parents had all kinds of plans and the twins were left bereft.

“You’re going to see your friends all the time. You have a whole beautiful summer ahead of you,” I said. “It’s going to be awesome.”

They still pouted and fussed until I sent them upstairs to put their bathing suits on so they could chill in the pool while I took a nap.

Mark was making them lunch when I got up and looking pretty tired himself, so I sent him off for his own siesta while I picked up from the chaos of the sleepover. That took most of the day and I had to bribe the girls to help.

“We’re tired,” Riley whined, and Zoey gave me her best pathetic look.

“Yeah, yeah, you weren’t tired when you were staying up all night with your friends. Go deflate the floats and put them in the storage shed,” I said, and they did it, but took their sweet time.

The rest of the day was lowkey and I was released from my duties to go back to the guest house.

I’d just woken up from my second nap when I saw I had some missed messages from Joy and Sydney.

Pool free?Joy asked. Mark let me have my friends over to enjoy the pool (within reason) anytime I wanted.

Yeah, kids are gone and it’s all cleaned up. Mark ran the pool bot earlier.I sent.

We will be there in a half an hour with dinner.Sydney replied.

I loved my friends.

I hit the shower and put on my one-piece and a pretty dress with a banana leaf print on it.

I stopped over to the house to tell Mark I was having my friends over.

“Can we hang out too?” Riley said, overhearing the conversation.

“Just for a little while, okay?” I said. Joy and Sydney were very accommodating when it came to the twins and they were happy to hang out with my charges when they came over, but they had their limits.

Joy and Sydney arrived in Joy’s car since they were coming from the same place.

“Thank god, I’m ready for adult conversation,” I said, giving them both hugs and helping them unload stuff from the car. They’d stopped and gotten tacos from a local place, as well as Cokes and churros for dessert with a special caramel sauce that I would inject into my veins if I could.

“You are both my angels and I love you,” I said as we set everything up by the pool. “Do you want drinks?”

“Yes, please,” Joy said, and Sydney nodded.

I went inside as the twins ran out and attacked Joy and Sydney. I made some quick mojitos and yelled at the twins to come in and help me carry them out.

“Can we have some?” Riley asked.

“Absolutely not, kid. Absolutely not.”

Riley rolled her eyes. “Not those. The ones without alcohol in them.”

“Still no,” I said. “But I can mix you up something fun and put lots of cherries in it.”

That seemed to appease them, so I made some Shirley Temples with lime in them and handed those off while Mark called them inside for dinner. He didn’t get as much time to cook as he liked, but making Sunday dinner was a ritual for him. Tonight it was pulled pork sandwiches with fresh slaw and creamy curry potato salad. He was putting a plate aside for me to have tomorrow.
