“You were just too cute. Couldn’t resist,” she said, messing up his hair.

“He is really cute,” I said, agreeing with her.

Liam smiled at Gwen and scowled at me.

The three of us sat for a little while longer and then headed to the water. Liam wanted to swim out a little bit, but Gwen and I stayed where the water was a little shallow and I asked her more about her life.

“Sorry, I’m not trying to interrogate you or anything, so just tell me if I should stop,” I said. “I’m also just really excited to meet you.”

“Can I tell you a secret?” Gwen said, floating closer to me. I wish I’d brought our inflatable rafts from the house so we could just lay out, but I hadn’t remembered them this morning.

“Of course,” I said.

“I was really excited to meet you too. Liam talks about you all the time,” Gwen said.

“I’m a little obsessed with him. Maybe that’s weird for an older sister, but I don’t care. He’s an awesome guy.”

“He is,” she said, looking out where we could still see Liam’s head bobbing above the waves and his arms as they cut through the water.

Gwen sighed. “I really like him.”

“Don’t worry,” I whispered. “I won’t tell.”

“Thanks,” Gwen said, her cheeks pink.

The three ofus had lunch at the snack bar and Liam revealed that he’d already met Gwen’s parents and her siblings. She was one of four, and they were all very close.

“My mom is ready to adopt him,” Gwen said as Liam carried the tray of food to an empty picnic table under an umbrella.

“I may be willing to share custody,” I said as Liam went red.

“I did not anticipate the two of you ganging up on me,” he said, grabbing a few fries.

“You should have,” I said, and Gwen nodded.

Oh, I definitely approved.

Gwen gota hug from me as we packed up our cars and prepared to leave.

“It was so nice to meet you,” Gwen said. “We should do something together soon.”

“Absolutely. You both can come over and I can make dinner,” I said.

“Sounds good,” Liam said, and I gave him a big hug.

“She’s a keeper,” I whispered in his ear.

He released me from the hug and smiled. “I know.”

Chapter Eleven

The twins had somehow gottenboth of their parents on board for this surprise boat ride, so I went ahead and booked five tickets for the sunset schooner cruise. The twins said that it was more plausible if I was going with them, so five tickets it was. They included a fresh lobster dinner and wine for the legal adults, which I was sad about missing.

The girls were true to their word and sent me the money to pay, so everything was all set for this plan to get their parents together again.
