“Thanks for letting me chop vegetables without too much supervision,” he said, glaring at me.

I just held up my middle finger at him and Gwen laughed. Even though this was only the second time the three of us were spending time together, she was used to how me and Liam interacted with each other. She had siblings.

“Gwen thinks I should get a cat,” Liam said.

“Oh my god, please get a cat. I want to be a cat auntie,” I said clasping my hands together in a pleading motion.

“See? I told you it was a good idea,” Gwen said.

“What am I going to do with a cat while I’m at work?” Liam asked.

“That’s easy,” I said. “You get a second cat to play with the first cat and they can keep each other company.”

“What she said,” Gwen said, pointing at me.

“So now I’m getting two cats?” Liam asked.

“Yes, you’re getting two cats,” I said.

“It would be cruel to just get one,” Gwen said, nodding. “You don’t want to be a bad cat dad, do you?”

“No,” he said with a sigh. “But if these cats destroy my apartment, I’m blaming both of you.”

“They’re not going to destroy your apartment,” I said.

“I’m going to hold you to that,” Liam said.

The restof the evening was punctuated with pizza and laughs. So much laughing that my stomach actually hurt when I got home. I sent Honor a message that I was home and that Liam and Gwen said hello.

They knew I was seeing someone, because I wasn’t really good at hiding it, but I had managed to keep her identity a secret so far.

I didn’t want to say “Honor is my girlfriend” until she was ready for me to say it.

That hadn’t stopped Liam and Gwen from grilling me about her, though.

It’s kind of fun having a secret lover, I sent.

I don’t know if I like being referred to as a secret lover, she responded.

Well, come up with a better term for yourself, babe, I sent back.

I like it when you call me babe, she replied.

My secret babe then, I sent.

I can live with that, she responded.

My weekend was jam packed, with the schooner cruise with the twins and their parents on Saturday night and then dinner with Honor and Lark on Sunday. I was a little nervous about both events, but I was really stressing about meeting Honor’s sister. I really didn’t know what to expect. I tried looking her up on social media but couldn’t really find anything. At least, not anything under her name. How dare she deprive me of the ability to stalk her online?

I guess I was going to have to wait until Sunday to really find out what Honor’s sister was like.

“Areyou sure you want to go through with this?” I asked the twins on Saturday as they were getting ready for the dinner. They’d informed Mark and Sadie that they should wear something nice, but since it was going to be chilly on the boat, everyone was bringing coats. Plus, they’d have to wear life jackets, which didn’t really go with semi-formal wear.
