This wasn’t about sex; it was far beyond any physical need.

It was the next level.

Chapter 4

‘For how long have you been awake?’ Cole asked, refusing to let me slip even an inch further from that chest tattoo that I managed to drool over— literally.

I couldn’t really answer that question, not without totally embarrassing myself and admitting to only having dozed off a couple of times through the entire night.

I was deadbeat tired, and that was far away from my plan. But I had a feeling that my time to rest was approaching an end.

I needed something else.

I needed that earth-shattering adrenaline rush that stormed through my senses.

I needed him to bring me back to life.

Not that I was ever going to admit any of that. ‘I woke up a few minutes ago.’

‘When did I ever lie to you?’ He let the sentence drift into the air, underlining a fundamental truth.

He never had.

Even if in the past he said it himself, I never put much value into the thought until now. I even found it difficult to admit the truth. ‘You never did,’ I murmured, though without raising my eyes to look at him.

‘Then why do you feel the need to do it? You’re safe with me. At least when it comes to someone judging you. I perfectly understand that you can’t keep yourself from drooling on me.’

‘Cole.’ I drew my head back to finally be able to look at him.

‘Don’t make things hard on yourself. I could feel you through the night. You were having trouble sleeping. And so did I.’ He wasn’t kidding when he said he wouldn’t lie to me, and since it was confession time, the hard part was just about to begin. ‘And you know why I kept waking up?’

I was dying to hear the answer. This time around, it was impossible to seem indifferent or hide my curiosity. ‘No, why?’

‘Well, except for the blue balls that you gave me by fussing against me the whole night, I had another reason. One that will either make you run or make you kiss me.’

‘Now you really have my curiosity.’

‘I want to take you out on a date. No deals or obligations. Just us— Bea and king Cole.’

‘You forgot to add themodestking Cole.’ I knew he was making fun of me, but he was the one who decided to go there in the first place.

‘I have zero reasons to be modest, and you know enough of them not to differ.’ He smirked like the devil he was, sneaking a hand on the small of my back and letting it slip on my posterior. ‘So what do you say? Are you going to break my heart or let me surprise you?’

‘I can’t really imagine you out on a date.’ I pouted my lips, trying with all power of imagination to visualize a moment in which he would act normal.

‘I can’t imagine it myself either, but there’s a first time for everything.’

‘What do you mean a first?’ I was a little consternated, thinking that he probably knew all restaurants and pick-up likes in town.

‘A firstas in I never fucking needed a date. Things just happened without the effort.’

‘Oh, so you’re putting in the effort so you can get me in bed with you? When I’m already in bed with you.’Confused much?

‘That’s not what I was trying to say, and you know it. I want to try this with you. And if things end up in bed, it would be like a bonus.’

‘Arrogant jerk.’

‘Call me whatever. You know you can’t resist me.’
