Or nightmares.
But I also felt a panic was setting in.
My anxiety level was at its peak, and at the same time, I was bathing in an intoxicating sensation. I was protected and loved, and... and despite everything that was going on, I was utterly aroused by the combined feeling of their hands securing my body.
And that was leading me to one conclusion: I was in fucking deep trouble!
The morning found me with Ferris’s arms wrapped around my waist as my back was molding to the form of his chest while Cole’s face was buried in the front part of my shirt. No surprise at all; on the contrary, it was making me smile— typical Cole.
With everything going on, I wasn’t expecting to get a moment of sleep, yet strangely, it was the best sleep I had had in a very, very long time.
I blamed it on the pill because the alternative seemed highly improbable.
I couldn’t have slept that well just because I had my kings with me.
Could I?
Ferris was also starting to wake up, and the sensual moistness of his lips was coming alive on my shoulder. ‘Do you feel better?’ he murmured, observing my head falling backward to make room for him to continue his voyage on my skin.
‘Yes.’ I nodded. I did feel alotbetter.
‘I’ll ask Alfred to send up breakfast then.’ The kisses stopped as Ferris was preparing to get out of bed.
That wasn’t what I had in mind. ‘Please, don’t go,’ I begged him, not prepared yet to be separated from his embrace. I just wanted to prolong the moment. Nothing could hurt me there. Nothing could reach me.
I could even say it was perfection, except I didn’t have all of my kings. I might never have because I was missing Brax.
Cole was still asleep.
That was until he let the blue color of his eyes flicker, looking up at me.
He didn’t disturb the atmosphere with even a sound, just stretched like a lazy cat and buried his nose against my chest for ten more minutes. Or at least that’s what he said. Though when we finally woke up, it was noon.
‘They’re going to kick me out if I don’t start attending classes soon,’ I whimpered, realizing that the day of Academy seminars was wasted.
‘No, they won’t,’ Ferris assured me with the calmest voice. He probably owned the Academy— teachers and all. And even if there were any part that he didn’t possess, it probably belonged to one of my other kings.
But it didn’t give me much comfort. I wanted to know I made it on my own.
‘We should inform Brax about the texts.’ Cole decided to speak, forcing me to lose any hopes that I could ever dismiss my mobster’s presence for even a second. There would always be something reminding me of him. And that scared me the most, especially since I was becoming certain that he would choose the ways of his past over any kind of a new beginning.
Knowing there was no point in fighting Cole’s will, I didn’t oppose it. It was probably for the best because if anyone could get to the bottom of things, Brax was the perfect man for the job.
It wasn’t long before we were all sat down on the living room sofa, and the doors were trembling with uncontained wrath as my king of the underworld was making his way to join us.
‘Give me the fucking phone!’ he barked, getting even Ferris to jolt from his spot. ‘Who the fuck dared to do this?’ He was out of control, incapable of stopping his jaw from tightening as he processed the information he had just received.
No matter what was going on between us, I was under his protection.
Coming after me meant a direct attack on him. And in his world, there was only one sentence for such a foolish mistake — death. On the streets, it was kill or be killed, and since Brax was imposingly standing in front of us, it was easy to know who was always the winner.
‘Calm down.’ Ferris was as close as it got to the voice of reason, but not even he could reach my mobster in those moments. He was lost somewhere between brilliance and madness, trying to figure out all possibilities.
Was it someone close to the mayor?
Was it related to the governor?
Maybe someone from The Pleasure Room?
