B.R.A.X.

I didn’t need to control myself. People control themselves in my presence, not the other way around. And those exact thoughts made the table crash to the ground, scattering splinters of what was supposed to beourdinner on the floor.

I managed to let a fucked-up particle infiltrate my soul, poisoning it like damn kryptonite. And it was having consequences, momentarily turning me into some empathetic loser.

No more of that. I came to my senses and had a solution for how to fight that exact weakness.

She meant nothing. Just disposable goods. And I needed to convince that messed up brain of mine of exactly that.

I was pouring myself what I remembered to be the third glass of whiskey that night when my phone began ringing.

Sure, a lot of people call me, but I knew from the first second who it was — Bea.

I didn’t answer. Couldn’t exactly allow myself to make that mistake. But with each new call, my curiosity replaced my will, and I needed to see what fucked up excuse could she come up with for standing me up.

‘What the fuck do you want?’ I roared more than spoke.

‘I’m sorry,’ her voice was cracking with fear.

And I had every right to reinforce that fear. ‘Yes, you will be.’

‘I wasn’t feeling well.’ She sucked at coming up with excuses, but beyond that, she was lying to me.

‘Oh, really!? My driver was in front of your apartment for an hour. When I saw you weren’t picking up, I asked him to go inside, but surprise, you weren’t home.’

‘I... I don’t live there anymore.’

The news took me by surprise. ‘You don’t!?’

‘No... I live... I live in the Hills,’ she babbled, knowing that it wasn’t just regular news. The ascension from the Pit to the Elite’s playground was pretty much impossible.

What the fuck was she doing in the Hills anyway?

‘This has to be good,’ I muttered, anticipating what she had to say next.

‘There’s nothing good about it. I just have other... arrangements. Nothing that could affect ourdeal.I could come now if you still want me to,’ Bea purred in a lame attempt to seduce me.

She really had no idea what she was up against. ‘There will be consequences to this. No one keeps me waiting.’ I gave her a fair warning.

‘As long asthe consequencesdon’t affect your part in our deal...,’ she barely murmured, preparing for whatever I would throw at her.

Oh, I would have ended our deal immediately, but I managed to convince myself that we were too far down the road to back off now. My team was already in positions, scanning the area. Plus, I was never the giving-upkind of man.

‘No... it won’t be affected. Text me the fucking address.’ I didn’t leave her room for a single word. Just hung up the phone and took a seat on the couch, reflecting on what exactly I had done.

A text to my driver and fifteen minutes later I could hear Bea entering my main door.

However, I couldn’t even budge and acknowledge her presence.

To be honest, I didn’t want to do it because the second I knew she was in my house all wicked thoughts came out to play as my conscience was screaming for some kind of punishment for her lack of respect. She needed to do just that one thing — show up on time, and somehow she managed to screw that up.

I took another sip out of my glass of whiskey, hoping I could find a balance between madness and reasoning, and that I wouldn’t end up hurting her.

Things were getting more complicated by the second and it was about time that Iuncomplicatethem.I had my whole life experience to back me up. Women lie and women leave. It was a general fact in my world. And if my own mother couldn’t do any better than that, then certainly no two-bit tramp would ever be different.

That made everything a lot easier. Bea was just an object I needed for my satisfaction, and I was going to useitfor its full purpose.

‘Brax...,’ she was calling me to acknowledge her arrival, but her voice only managed to draw my attention to yet another mistake that I made — the fucking outfit she was wearing.
