Bea was searching for a piece of my soul I wasn’t sure I even owned, betting all her money on the card of love. She was doing it out of love and I was the sick bastard watching to see how far could she get.
In one move, the man captured her ankles, disposing of the dress that had been cradled against her feet.
If with Ferris and Cole I had no problem with them touching her. With this guy I could rip his heart out throughout his throat.
His lips glued on her knuckles, gentle advancing upwards on her body, straight to the upper part of her breasts.
The image ruptured something within me, just as if I was about to get stomach sick. It suddenly became too much for me to handle, especially knowing that Bea was doing all of that just to get a reaction out of me.
And she was succeeding. The strongest reaction possible as my feet transported me into the other room just as the man was about to remove her bra.
‘Get out!’ I roared, getting the man to evaporate the very next second.
Yet Bea didn’t even seem to hear me entering the room. That was until I picked her up and seated her at the border of the holstered table as my lungs were struggling to find the air to keep breathing.
‘What do you think you’re doing?’ She was trying to play angry, thinking that I would let her continue to have her game.
‘I’m not going to let you fuck some random guy. You are not a whore.’ It wasn’t the same as it was with Ferris or Cole.
‘Yet, you treat me like one,’ she complained, trying a useless death-stare on me.
‘Open your fucking legs and hear me out.’ I pushed her thighs open to make room against her core as my delusional brain was thinking that it would ease my throbbing shaft.
‘Exactly what I was saying,’ she grumbled, thinking I was about to fuck her.
Maybe on a normal day I was. But not in those moments when even I didn’t know what I was doing anymore. The only thing I knew was that I needed a resolution. Bea caught me out in the open. I never would have interrupted them if she was indifferent to me, and she knew it.
My weakness was exposed and that only meant one thing.
Something needed to change.
‘Shut up, Bea. Now listen to me because I’m only going to say this once.’ I could barely open my mouth to speak knowing what I was about to do, but there was no other way. ‘You’re free. I release you from the contract. Leave or stay. The choice is yours.’
I was determined to keep my end of the deal. I just couldn’t force her to keep hers anymore.
Instead of the thank you I expected, she raised a question I had no answer to. ‘Are you asking me to stay?’
‘I’m asking you to do whatever you want.’ I couldn’t be responsible for the weight of that decision. That would mean a bigger commitment than I had to offer.
‘I need to know whatyouwant.’ She needed to hear someI love youshit while I could never spare those words.
Still, I had my own way of making her be aware of my intentions. ‘I came into the room, didn’t I?’
I didn’t even know if I was pissed off at her for making me say it, or of me for opening my mouth to speak. But that game of feelings was certainly something I didn’t usually condone.
‘So what now?’ Her eyes flashed with sparkles of hope while my own darkness harbored much more devious thoughts.
‘Now...’ I brought my lips to meet with hers, sealing our new unwritten deal. I was convinced it could be that simple, when in reality things were much more impossibly complicated than that.
Her lips seemed dead against mine. At first I thought it was one of her games, opposing me to spice up the atmosphere. But the harder I pressed my mouth on hers, the more her body was growing stiffer into my arms.
‘What’s wrong?’ I asked, afraid to admit to myself that I understood from the first time what she was really trying to say.
‘I don’t want this, Brax,’ she murmured the words I dreaded most.
And that got me asking a question I already knew the answer to. ‘What do you want then?’
‘Something real. Something more than sex.’ The pain in her voice as she was asking for the impossible was confirming to me that it was the only offer she was going to make.
