Dread fills me as I make my next call. By the time it is answered, tears are streaming down my face.

“Hello, Aurora. I’ve been wondering how long it would take you to get in touch,” my father says as soon as he answers the phone.

“What is going on?” I dive straight in. “Who is Leila?” I demand as I try to steady my racing heart.

“So you figured it out,” he says, and I freeze.

No.

It can’t be!

“Lev was right,” I whisper, but my father remains silent. Sudden fury surges. “What the hell did you do!” I yell.

“Don’t think you can talk to me like that just because Ivanov allows you to get away with it,” he says, but I’m past caring.

“Who is Leila? Why did you lie about my mother?” I fire at him.

“Because it was the best way for my plan to succeed,” he snaps back.

I pause as I try to come to terms with his words.

“Your plan?” I question.

“You heard me, girl. I’ve waited for years to penetrate the fortress of the Bratva. There was no way in… except through you. But I knew your stupid emotions wouldn’t allow you to do what needed to be done, so I devised another way,” he says.

“No! You used me to get close to Lev?” I whisper in shock as I slowly shake my head. Everything starts making sense to me.

Holy shit.

My father planned this all along. My tears continue to stream as I think of the lengths he has gone. He used me again, and in the most horrific way I could imagine. His silence is all the answer I need.

“You made a whore of me!” I spit out. “Your own daughter.”

“Oh please, don’t tell me you didn’t enjoy it,” he sneers. “Don’t think I didn’t hear the stories.”

“Stories?” I choke out. “What stories?”

“The way you screamed for that filthy pig. Fucking like an animal even when there were servants around. What happened to your pride, girl? You’re no De Luca. You’re right. Youarea whore. But I didn’t make you one.”

I don’t realize I’m sobbing until I suck in a breath and hear him chuckle at me. The shame is unbearable, but it’s not because of what he’s saying.

Lev was right. Even without realizing it, I’m guilty of everything he accused me of.

I betrayed him.

“But the treaty,” I whisper. “I thought it was to mend bridges between the two families.”

“It was a farce, you stupid bitch. That fool Ivanov bought into it,” he says casually. “Thinking with his cock, like the rest of his kind. I knew I had him the moment his eyes glued to that photo of you I showed him.”

There are so many hateful things I want to tell him, but I’m determined to know everything.

“You killed my mother,” I whisper, and he doesn’t bother to dispute it. It makes my blood run cold.

“She was weak,” he sneers. “I had to eliminate her when she wanted to ruin my business. Preaching nonsense about the flesh trade being abominable,” he says. Yet again, I’m fighting the urge to gag.

My God.

He’s a monster!
