She must think that I have no idea who’s responsible for this shitstorm. I must leave her under the impression that I think she’s innocent.

For now.

But at the end of the day, she will have to pay. Not just for what she’s done to my organization but for what she’s done to me. My chest aches as I think about her betrayal.

You fucking fool.

You should have known better than to let her into your heart.

I snap out of my reverie when the door opens, and Sergei stands framed in it.

“Boss,” he says curtly.

“What?” I snap. Sergei flinches, but he doesn’t react. Perhaps, they are getting used to my poor attitude. I can’t deny that I’ve been on edge lately.

I’ve had men betray me and dealt with them accordingly. But this is worse than anything I’ve had to deal with as head of the Bratva. Worse, because it’s fucking personal.

“Your wife has left…again,” Sergei snaps me out of my thoughts, and I stare at him, trying to keep my expression neutral. He nervously shifts from foot to foot under my scrutiny.

“What did you say?” I ask as I stand.

She left?

How dare she?!

Is she trying to escape again?

I’m livid that Aurora is trying to pull a fast one on me. One more black mark against her name – as if the betrayal wasn’t bad enough. And now to leave the property without my permission?

Of course, it’s typical that Aurora would never obey me. Especially now that I know that her goal is to see me dead. I wonder if she is out working on another plot to kill me.

I clench my fists as I think of that possibility. I don’t think I’ll be able to hold back my wrath if I find out that is what she went out to do.

It’s your own fucking fault for letting her get under your skin.

And I may never have suspected any of it if it hadn’t been for that CCTV footage of Aurora leaving the kitchen. I would never have believed she was responsible for drugging my men. But with the proof staring me in the face those nights ago, it’s impossible to deny.

Aurora is the traitor in our midst.

I keep asking myself why, but the answer may be quite simple. She’s fought this marriage from the very first moment. It may have suited her asshole father, but Aurora? I’d be a fool to think she was happy about the idea. Would it be so surprising to learn she’d teamed up with someone to take me out on my own home turf? Get rid of me, show her father she won’t be his puppet… The perfect revenge for a woman who must have had ample opportunity to meet the right lowlives to help her.

Except she hadn’t counted on fighting the fucking Devil.

I have eyes everywhere… and of course, I’d start by watching close to home. Like the video Ludis showed me.

As if the camera footage wasn’t enough, Elena and the rest of the kitchen staff confirmed that they left Aurora alone in the kitchen for a short while that night.

“Blyad,” I curse under my breath.

All I need is a little time to figure out who she’s working with. Once those fuckers are removed from the equation, I can confront her. I just have to figure out what to do with her in the meantime… She can’t find out that I know she’s responsible for this shitstorm.

“Leave,” I say and Sergei complies immediately.

I pace the room, my head spinning with ideas to inflict the perfect punishment on my rebellious wife. I stop pacing when an idea comes to my mind.

“Bingo,” I mutter with a smirk. Aurora will be the mistress of her own demise…

I know I can’t confront her before I figured out who she’s working with, but I know exactly how to break her. It will be the perfect distraction while I get to the bottom of this. For all her rebellion, I know she has a vulnerable side to her. I can use that against her. And in doing so, she’ll let me straight to the enemy before I discard her.
