“And what about you? I saw in your profile that you chose occasionally on the question about switching. Why is that?”

She shrugs. “You already know from my work that I can switch. Not that I think you would ever let me be in charge.”

Rage fills me, and I fight the urge to hurl my glass. “So, you’re saying you want to bring another man here?” Even I can hear the anger in my tone. I should worry about scaring, but right now I don’t give a damn.

She blinks. “What? No. I’m not sure why I chose that response. I guess it’s what made me feel most in control. I’m not sure if you noticed, but I’m kind of a control freak too, and I don’t like not being in control. Even when I love it. I hate it.”

“That doesn’t make any sense, Flower.”

“I submit on my terms. That’s all I’m saying.”

“Now that makes sense,” I say, echoing her with a wink. “And I wouldn’t want you any other way. Believe it or not, I like your ability to set boundaries.”

“So, what do you want out of a submissive? You said you haven’t had a proper submissive at your feet in a while. Is that what turns you on? You want someone to kneel at your feet?”

“It is a pretty sight, I must admit. But it’s more than that. There’s something beautiful about a woman who trusts me with her pleasure and her pain. Trusts me to make sure she gets what she needs and doesn’t question my methods for getting us there. Even if she fights it a little and needs to be in control everywhere else in her life, there’s beauty when she finally lets go and relaxes into her role as mine.”

She hums. “OK. That does sound kind of sexy when you put it that way. So, Mr. Bowden, how would you like to get us there tonight? And don’t think I didn’t notice how you failed to answer my initial question. I’m just letting you off the hook.”

I wink. “So noted, lovely girl. Tonight, I just want to spend time with you. And when the time feels right, we’ll go to a private room. I’ve already asked Bellamy to keep the Queen room open.”

She rolls her eyes dramatically. “I’m that much of a sure thing, am I?”

I could remind her that her bank account says she is, in fact, a sure thing. But that’s not how I want tonight to go down, so I wink and nod to her drink. Hopefully, by the time I’m done showing her everything I want to show her, she’ll be ready for me to devour her.

“Finish up. There’s a show happening in Owen’s room tonight, and I think you’ll enjoy it.”

“And which suit is Owen? Diamonds or hearts?”

“Why don’t you think he’s the club?” I’m curious about her perceptions of all of us.

“Victor is absolutely the club. And you’re the spade, which leaves hearts and diamonds. My guess is Owen is the diamond. It’s flashy just like he is. And you’ve already said that Matteo is at the heart of this place, so it makes sense for him to be the heart.”

“You could make me some serious money in the casinos.”

She frowns, as if she has no idea what I’m talking about.

“You’re very perceptive, Zara. I’ve met no one who reads people as easily as you do. It’s a treat to watch.”

She smiles. “Is that your way of saying I’m right?”

I laugh out loud and reach for her hand. “Yes, love. You’re right. What makes Victor the club?”

She chuckles. “At first, that was just my brain doing a play on words. You once said he was the muscle. But then it just became a process of elimination thing.”

“Like I said, perceptive. You would put some of Owen’s investigators to shame.”

“Do you gamble?” she asks.

“Occasionally. It’s mostly a waste of money, but I do enjoy the game from time to time. What about you?”

She grins. “I love it. But I rarely do it on my own dime. There’s a client who takes me to Atlantic City twice a year as his good luck charm. And he always gives me a stack of cash to play with.” She holds up a hand. “God. I’m sorry. I’ll stop talking about clients. It’s not something I normally have a problem with. But I can tell it bothers you.”

The recognition of my jealousy soothes some of the rage simmering just beneath the surface. If Zara had any idea the violence I’m capable of, she would run screaming. I’m doing my best to keep my rage in check, and I offer a small smile.

“Sounds like a fun time. If things slow down for us, I’ll take you to the high stakes room at the Sapphire.”

“I won’t say no to that.”
