But I have to get her on that plane. So, I pull out my phone again.

“Owen, it’s Luke. I need a huge favor.”

“Ooh. What will you owe me if I do it?”

Normally, I would play into his banter, and it would take ten minutes for us to get to the point, but I don’t have the time for that. I need to get right to the point and get things handled.

“Not the time. I need you to set up an account for Zara…” I trail off and look at her expectantly.

“Blaire,” she says, reluctance clear in her tone.

“Zara Blaire and transfer a hundred grand into it. I need proof of the deposit in the next hour. I also need a penthouse at either the Sapphire or Elysium.”

Owen whistles. “Can’t wait to meet this Zara. Who is she?”

I close my eyes. This is the part I am unsure about.

“Tell him the truth,” Zara prods. I didn’t realize she could hear Owen.

“If anyone asks, she’s an escort and you’re paying for a week of her time.”

“Bellamy will kill me if she catches me paying for an escort. And I mean kill me dead, mate.”

I sigh. “Bellamy just helped me get her on a plane back to Vegas with me.”

“Bloody hell. What’s going on, Luke?”

“I can’t say right now. But we’ll be back in Vegas early in the morning. Send someone to get us. Bellamy has our flight information. I’ll explain everything tomorrow night at High Card. I’m going to need a guest pass for our friend.”

Owen hesitates.

“I know, it’s last minute. But Matteo got away with bringing Skylar in. Make this happen, please.”

I don’t know why I’m trying to bring her to the club with me. It would be just as easy to lock her in the penthouse I’m setting her up with for the week.

If I’m honest, I just want to see her reaction to our exclusive little slice of heaven.

“Fine. But I want a full background check asap. We’re taking too many risks. Skylar turned out alright because she was Bryce’s sister. I’m not convinced we’ll get that lucky a second time.”

Owen isn’t wrong. Our club thrives because of our secrecy and extreme security measures. Yes, we work with criminals and once a quarter we invite a lot of them to the club for a night of mixing business and pleasure. But we have rules, and those rules include being careful who we let in. If we were to break the trust of the people who give us the most money, not only would everything we’ve built crumble, but there would likely be some people who want us dead.

So, I can’t let that happen.

“Your money is on the way. Now I’m going to go have a talk with Bellamy about not keeping me informed.”

A half hour later, we pull into the airfield and my shoulders tense when I see Jamie Bowden standing at the foot of the stairs leading up to the plane.

“How did he beat us here?” Zara asks.

I shake my head. “Come on. Let’s go see what the old man wants.”

“What are you doing here?” I snap when we approach.

“I thought I would bring the bag personally and make sure you both understand the gravity of what we’re dealing with here.”

With a sigh, I put a hand on his shoulder. “We’ve got it, Pop. Now let us get on the plane. We need a head start before anyone can put us in that club.”

He gives me a terse nod and turns to Zara who has stayed quiet.
