I quirked a brow at him. “She’s a big girl, Noah, and he’s a good guy. You’ll only hurt her by storming over there and going all alpha asshole on him. Don’t you trust her?”

He narrowed his eyes as he looked back to where Leaf was coaxing Saffy back onto the dance floor. She squealed happily as he spun her in a circle and they sank into the crowd, Noah deflating suddenly with a loud huff of annoyance.

“She can kick his ass herself if she needs to,” I reminded him, coaxing a small smile out of him again as he accepted my point.

“Anyone want some food? It’s delicious!”

I blinked in surprise as the newcomer appeared in front of us and grabbed a seat, the plate in his hands piled high with steaming food.

“Channing!” I cried in delight. “I didn’t know you were here!”

He turned his beaming white smile on me, his dark skin glowing in the firelight. “I have been impatiently awaiting your return, beautiful girl.”

I quirked a brow at him. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”

He chuckled at my sarcastic tone. “Ah, it matters not. I have been waiting far longer than you know.”

“You weren’t here earlier,” Noah answered with a frown.

Channing tilted his head in agreement. “No, Sweetie does not move as fast as she once did.”

I sat up excitedly at the mention of my old friend. “Sweetie?”

He nodded as he filled his mouth with food. “She is well and in the stables. I will leave her here with you.”

I clapped my hands happily before frowning. “How did you know we would arrive today?”

He smirked at me. “I have my ways, little one.”

I drew back at his words and eyed him suspiciously. “You aren’t the only one to use that name for me.”

He laughed again as he smugly licked his fingers clean. “No, I’m not, am I.”

I leaned forward to stare into his impish gaze. “I thought it was a coincidence when you first said it, but it wasn’t, was it? Who are you?”

“I was sent here a long time ago to watch over the pack,” Channing admitted with a kind smile. “Though I was under strict instructions never to interfere, so if anyone asks how that first crystal stone got into Mina’s possession, it wasn’t me.”

“Woah, woah, woah,” Noah interrupted, holding up his hands. “But I’ve known you my whole life. You’re a shifter.”

Channing sent him a wink. “Am I?”

“You’re a god,” I answered simply.

He chuckled. “Something like that. Anyway, I’m leaving you now. It’s time I went home.”

Noah frowned. “What about Harlow? Is she a god?”

Channing bellowed a sudden laugh, holding his stomach as he doubled over in amusement. I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my own face as I watched.

“No, that girl is a shifter like her mother,” he answered when he could breathe again. “Part of my cover story. She will be fine without me.”

He turned to Noah and gestured at the bar. “I think a farewell drink is in order, if you wouldn’t mind fetching something?”

Noah looked dumbfounded but nodded, standing and going to the bar without a word. Channing turned back to me with a knowing smile.

“I have a message for you.”

My brows flew up in surprise. “From who?”
