Reaching between us before I could come down from the high, he teased wetness up to my clit, circling it steadily and holding me firmly in place as I squirmed against the over-stimulation.

“Again,” he ordered, pulling me closer to suck a peaked nipple into his mouth as he increased the pressure on my clit.

My nails dug into his shoulders as I writhed over him, shaking as his talented fingers sent me hurtling over the precipice once again. I choked out his name as I came hard, barely aware of him flipping us over before he began to power into me in long, fierce strokes, pinning me to the hard-packed dirt. I reached up to bury my trembling hands in his thick, blonde hair as he groaned into my neck, shuddering as he emptied himself deep inside of me and sent another wave of sensation across my skin.

Our bond pulsed between us stronger than ever as we fell still and panted our way through the aftershocks, Noah pressing soft kisses over my face as he eased out of me. Rolling us, he gathered me into his arms, his hands running firmly over my skin like he needed to reassure himself I was really there.

“I’m not going anywhere,” I whispered, pressing a kiss to his chest.

He sighed, only holding me tighter and answering me on a growl. “I’ll kill anyone who tries to take you from me again, Cor. No matter who it is, no matter what I have to sacrifice. You’re mine.”

A shiver worked its way up my spine at his words, the dark promise feeling like a premonition that sent dread thrumming through me. This fight wasn’t over yet, not by a long shot. We still had a long way to travel along this path to fulfil the prophecy, and with the Queen actively moving against the pack now we didn’t have a lot of time left.

All I could hope, could pray to whichever gods were listening, was that it would all be worth it. That the glimmer of light that was our future wouldn’t get snuffed out along the way, and one day I would lie in the arms of the men I loved and know we were finally, truly safe.

Chapter Nine

Noah

Wide,deep-browneyesreflectedback at me in the bright moonlight as I stalked through the trees towards my prey. Stilling as a light breeze whipped through the leaves around us, I watched the doe’s nostrils flare before she suddenly leapt to life. Bursting into a run, she dove into the forest and sprinted away from me, leaving me no choice but to break my cover and give chase. Adrenalin pumped through me as I pushed my paws into the rough dirt, every instinct I had rejoicing in the hunt as we darted through the undergrowth in a primal dance. Her white-tipped tail danced and bobbed through the trees before me as I pushed myself harder, my focus now so complete that the simple white mark seemed to bleed across my vision until all I could see was light.

“The Wolf seeks his due…”

The voice sounded like a whisper on the breeze, startling my wolf enough that I skidded to a halt.

“The vengeance for his creation…”

I could still feel the solid ground beneath my feet. Could still feel the breeze in my fur. But the white light surrounded me now, flooding my vision.

“Under the moon a child will be born with His mark, unseen by all but the destined three…”

The voice floated around me, rough yet smooth, quiet yet deafening. Soothing my soul while prickling almost painfully across my skin.

“Three stones are the fated offering…”

I pulled back my wolf, shifting into my human skin so I could speak. “Who are you? What is this?”

I squinted as the light shone brighter, raising a hand in a futile attempt to shield my face. It seemed to pulse against my eyelids, pushing under the lids even as I squeezed them shut.

“The lone path to pierce the darkness.”

My hands instinctively flew up to my face as my eyes snapped open, shielding me from the light that was no longer there. Sitting up with a low groan, I shook the last echoes of the whispers from my mind and pushed my fingers through my hair.

“Hey,” a soft voice murmured, soulful eyes catching mine as I glanced down at my mate beside me. “Are you ok?”

I gave her a half smile. “Dream. I’m good, go back to sleep, sweetheart.”

She rolled her eyes at me as she pushed up to sit with me, snuggling under my arm to wrap her arms around my waist. I pulled her closer, squeezing as I let myself appreciate that she was with me.

Finally.

Gods-damn, feeling our bond fully back in place was incredible. It had grown stronger with every step that I had taken as I’d run towards her, letting the connection guide me through the forest until I finally saw her face again.

“What were you dreaming about?” she breathed, trying not to wake the others who lay nearby.

Streaks of red and bronze lined the treetops as the sun began to rise, the birdsong growing louder as the world around us began to slowly wake. Spencer, Linc and Hawk lay sleeping on the opposite side of the small fire we had built the night before, laying in a circle around Briar in a protective wall that made me smirk.

“The prophecy,” I murmured in reply, making Cor tense a little until I rubbed her back soothingly. “It was just a dream at first, but something took over and a voice started reciting it.”
