“I feel like you’re trying to take control here,” I groaned with a grin, my head dropping back as he licked a long path up my throat.

A small squeak escaped me as he bit down on my shoulder, squeezing my hips as he adjusted his angle so that he was grinding against my clit with every thrust.

“Not trying, Cordy,” he smirked, that dominant arrogance that I’d missed so much back in full force. “You’re going to come for me when I tell you to, and then I’ll sink my teeth into your neck and make you mine.”

I breathed a shaky laugh. “Yeh, it so doesn’t work like that.”

His dark chuckle reverberated through me as he thrust deep and I gasped, the rain lighter now even as thunder still rolled above us, light droplets scattering over my face as he ran his nose along my collarbone.

“You want my bite? Then you’ll hold it back.”

I tried to kick out at him but he just gripped my leg tighter, pinning me as he steadily worked me higher. Every grind of his hips sent sparks shooting through me, and as I rocketed towards the edge he released my knee to wrap his hand around my throat.

“Not yet,” he growled, squeezing just enough to send me spinning higher as my pulse pounded in my ears.

He picked up the pace, hammering into me with his searing gaze fixed on mine as I clung to the edge of oblivion and tried desperately to hold off my release. He caught my lips in a hot kiss as his rhythm began to stutter, his own end approaching as he tightened his grip on my throat and leaned down to my ear.

“Come. Now.”

My vision went white as I finally let go, falling off the edge with a scream as he sank his teeth deep into my neck to complete the mate bond. The magic of the moment prevented any pain as he emptied himself inside me, releasing his bite and falling to the side to gather me into his arms.

“Good girl,” he whispered, holding me tightly as the last tremors of sensation slowly washed through me, sending a shiver of need down my spine even though I had just come hard enough to forget my own name.

I half heartedly smacked his chest, making him chuckle as I gave his nipple a pinch for good measure.

“You’re a cocky asshole, you know,” I grated, my voice hoarse.

He only laughed harder before untangling our limbs and helping me to my feet, kissing me sweetly as he steadied me.

“Maybe, but I’m your cocky asshole, and you love it.”

Joy and pride flowed down our newly-minted bond, the depth of his love for me making my breath catch as I kissed him back and smiled before pulling away and heading back under the cover of the trees.

“Last one home has to wash the mud off both of us,” I sing-songed, dancing away from him on shaky legs as he grabbed for me.

“Deal,” he said, his voice gravelly as he watched me walk away. “That’s one bet I will happily lose, little mate.”

Chapter Sixteen

Cordelia

Deliciouslyroughfingertipsmeandereddown my spine as the sun climbed high enough to send its rays spilling across the wooden floorboards, dust motes floating lazily in the air as I opened my tired eyes and arched into a languid stretch. A shiver raced through me as a calloused thumb brushed over the rune that marked my skin, reminding me of the looming burden of the prophecy. Pushing away the unwelcome sense of foreboding, I twisted in the sheets to face my newest mate.

“Morning,” I murmured with a sleepy smile, reaching up to trace the inked tendrils of smoke that ran up his neck before he captured my wrist and pulled me in for a searing kiss.

“Good morning, gorgeous,” he replied as he pulled away, a satisfied smirk on his lips as I tried to calm my suddenly racing pulse.

“Do I smell bacon?” I murmured as my stomach growled audibly, making Zeke huff a laugh before rolling out of bed.

“Yup, so get your cute butt down there before they eat it all,” he said, reaching up in a long stretch as he stood. “I’m gonna grab a shower.”

Desire fizzed through my veins as I watched him walk away from the bed, the muscles in his ass flexing and almost distracting me enough to miss the unease and guilt I could feel through our new bond.

“Woah,” I called, sliding out of the sheets to follow him into the bathroom, leaning against the doorframe as he grabbed a toothbrush. “What’s with all the worry?”

He glanced back at me in surprise and I shrugged. “We’re bonded. You can’t hide from me anymore.”

He let out a long breath before dropping the brush and catching my eye in the oval mirror.
