Noah’s nose wrinkled in disgust. “Seriously, Saffy, did you have to say it like that?”

She winked obscenely at me as I laughed, letting her pull me away from my mate as he pretended to gag into his fist.

“I have so much to do, Saf,” I protested as she tugged me away and out into the open.

She scoffed back at me. “When don’t you?”

Guilt suddenly swamped me. She wasn’t wrong, I’d hardly seen her since my return, and I definitely owed her some time.

“So, we’re escaping for a few hours,” she explained. “Girl time. You can choose where.”

I smiled at her, nodding. “Ok. I’m all yours, the guys can handle things for a bit.”

She chuckled. “Let’s hope. So, what are we doing?”

I tried for all of three seconds to resist my instinctive response, the logical answers I’d had just not enough to settle my gut feeling.

“Let’s go to the Mage Stone.”

“You wanna climb up?” Saffy asked as we stood at the base of the stone, hands on our hips as we squinted up at it.

The sun sat high above now, its bright rays banishing the shadows and making the colours of the forest pop around us.

I shrugged. “Maybe. I think the mark is the key though.”

“The key to what?” she asked, the blue of her eyes matching the glorious sky above as she glanced over at me.

I huffed out a long breath. “I have no idea. Something. Maybe nothing. I don’t know.”

She chuckled and gave me a gentle shove. “Careful, you’re moping. Zeke’s rubbing off on you.”

Her eyes widened a little as my cheeks flushed. “Wait, did you guys make up? Did he rubonyou?”

I laughed at her cheeky grin before walking past her and heading around the stone.

“We’re mated. I yelled at him in the rain and we sealed the bond.”

Her answering squeal had me almost jumping in fright, though I managed to control my defensive reaction as she leapt on me.

“Oh my gods, you are my hero!” she yelled in my ear as she wrapped me in a bear hug. “I can’t believe you mated with all three of them!”

“Ouch, Saffy,” I grumbled good-naturedly as I peeled her off me.

She ignored me as she wrinkled her nose. “Hang on, you have to deal with three of them. Forever. Those grumpy, overbearing alphaholes. Have you thought this through?”

I grinned and shrugged. “You think that one of them could handle me alone?”

She threw her head back as she laughed loudly. “Plus, there’s the sex, right?”

I nodded as I turned back to the wall in search of the rune marking. “Definitely a plus.”

I planted my hands on my hips again as I looked down at the labyrinth marking low on the rock. Saffy stood beside me and bent at the waist to squint at it.

“So it’s a witch mark?”

I shrugged. “Supposedly.”

She straightened and looked at me. “So chuck some magic at it and see what happens.”
