She found a place to sit in the sun just off the front porch and take the weather in. The wind rattled the trees, making the leaves fall around them, and birds took flight. Despite her terrifying morning, she was still able to appreciate the views.

I could really see myself staying here and enjoying myself. There is nice scenery all the time, and it’s away from people, so we have privacy.

She looked at Zara, who was staring at a bird in the distance. She chuckled, wondering when she would be able to shift like her father.

After some time, she pulled herself up and moved around. They didn’t leave the yard, as she knew that Henry wouldn’t be pleased about the idea. She was happy enough that he allowed her outside more. Besides, she wasn’t sure she would enter the woods for a while after the last time.

She walked, bouncing Zara softly as she went. Zara cooed and stared at her with big eyes. She smiled back at her.

To one side of her was the barn, and Kirstin smiled fondly. She’d remembered going in there and looking at all his work. He had mounds of different woods and a large pile of finished pieces ranging from carvings to tables and chairs. He really was talented.

I wonder if he would make something for me if I asked. It would be nice to have something made by him in my bedroom.

She looked at Zara and wondered what her father had all made for her. She knew that he had made the crib she slept in and the rocking chair that was in her nursery. She figured that probably everything in her room was made by her father.

“You know, Zara, your father really loves you.” She continued to bounce her. “He loves you with all his heart. He even got me around to help.”

Zara stared back at her. She smiled.

“And he works hard to give you a comfortable, safe home.”

She looked over at the barn and wished she could hear Henry whistling as he worked in there. It was a habit she noticed he had. She thought it was nice, a little music to listen to.

She could envision him standing over a table, writing something on a piece of paper. She grinned as she thought of him, of the way his back muscles moved and the way his arms bulged.

As much as you tried to deny it all, you lost in the end. You fell in love.

She was worried about what could all happen now that she had. There was still a lot they were going to have to figure out. They had no idea what the future held.

She looked at the trees and thought she was sure she was seeing something in the distance. She squinted, realizing it was a tiger standing at the exit of the trail. It was almost as big as Henry was and worry dripped over her. She swallowed.

Tigers aren’t native to the area, so this has to be another tiger shifter. Henry would have said if he was expecting someone, so I’m guessing they weren’t invited.

“Henry,” she yelled, hoping he was near.

He stepped out of the tree line, his eyes were already on the other tiger, and his jaw set hard.

So, I was right. This isn’t a good thing.

“Take Zara inside right now,” he said, taking a few steps in the direction of the tiger. “Go inside, and lock the doors. Do not open them for anyone besides me.”

Before she could say anything else, he shifted and took off in a full sprint toward the other tiger. She turned quickly, pulling Zara close, and hurried back over toward the cabin.

She got inside and did as he asked. She locked the doors. All the doors. Her head was spinning as she peered through the window towards the woods.

Henry was a tiger shifter, and her life was never going to be the same again. She now lived in the woods and was in love with a tiger shifter and his baby.

My life has officially changed.

SEVENTEEN

HENRY

Henry soared into the forest beyond his property, amazed by the speed the tiger in front of him was able to maintain. He jetted over sprinkles of snow, dipped and dodged the evergreens, and was barely able to keep up. He saw the tiger’s tail slowly fading away in the distance, but he managed to keep close enough to catch their scent.

It was tangy and strong, a fragrance of sweat and heat. Henry was able to interpret that the tiger was female, but he had no clue who she was beyond that. All he knew was that she was fucking fast, having managed to outrun him and disappear over the ridge just beyond his acreage.

Henry decided to go on for a bit to follow her scent, hoping to find where she was camping and dig up why she was on his property. Tigers were rare in the area, other than him, of course, so there must have been a reason as to why it was watching Kirsten, Zara, and him.
