The tiger looked at her, and she stopped walking. She was a good twenty feet away still, and the tiger growled.

“I know you’re a shifter, and you somehow must know who Henry is. Why are you coming here? Why don’t you just come to talk to Henry?”

The tiger started to turn, and she frowned, realizing it was going to bolt.

“Please, just come back. Henry is more than willing to talk to you.”

The tiger took off, and she started after it. “Hey! I know you aren’t an actual tiger! Come back! I have a big litter box with your name on it!”

The tiger was gone, and she stopped moving. She sighed, running her hands through her hair.

Henry came home four hours later, and she caught him at the door. He looked tired from being gone, but she had to tell him what had happened.

“The tiger was back,” she said, not bothering to hold it in.

Henry’s eyes widened. “What do you mean the tiger was back?”

“The tiger came back, but it left again.”

He scowled and then ran his hands through his hair. He inhaled, and his eyes looked outside the window. “How long ago?”

“Hours ago,” she said, taking a step towards him. “But I’m sure they will be back.” She believed it. Whoever it was, they were looking for someone or something here. She just didn’t know what.

“Do you know what it’s looking for?”

He shook his head, looking at her, almost broken. “I don’t.”

She wished she could help him, but there was nothing she could do. She tried talking to it, but it seemed it didn’t want to have a conversation. She could only wait, just like Henry, and see what happened.

NINETEEN

HENRY

He took in Kirsten’s words, and he froze. The tiger was back? It wasn’t even twenty-four hours yet. He shouldn’t have left. He could have finally caught the tiger if he had been here. He listened as Kirsten went on, but his mind was no longer there. He was now focused on finding out what was going on.

Who would come onto my land? The only other tiger I know is Sher, but she isn’t here. She gave up on us and went home. She didn’t want to be here with Zara or me anymore. She divorced me. So, it couldn’t be her.

But who else could it be? I don’t know anyone else that’s a tiger who would comehere.Only an idiot would continue to go onto someone’s land and not expect to get caught.

That didn’t answer for all the other animals coming onto his land. There shouldn’t be so many shifters coming near him and his family.

He rubbed his eyes, trying to go over clients and past relationships he had. Nothing came to mind. Not a single one. And even if one of them had come to his property, he had good relationships with all of them. The only outlier was with Sher. And he couldn’t even say it was bad.

He sighed, looking at Kirsten. “What did you say? I’m guessing they didn’t come to the door, so that means you went outside.”

She made a face before she sighed. “I just told them I knew they were a shifter and that they could come to talk to you. They didn’t even listen to what I said. They turned around and took off back into the woods. Don’t be upset that I went outside.”

He sighed, trying. He understood what she was trying to do. “They didn’t stay? They didn’t come back either?” He thought that was odd. If they wanted something, they could have taken it while he was away. Kirsten was powerful but not strong enough to stop a shifter.

Did that mean that they wanted him? They could have caught him off guard in the woods if they wanted him, so that wasn’t it.

Could it be Sher? Had she decided she didn’t want out? No. That was an insane idea. Sher made it clear she didn’t want Zara. She didn’t want a life with him.

“They took off? You’re sure of that?”

“Yes,” she said, taking a step towards him. “Are you okay? Is there something I should be worried about?”

No, he wasn’t okay. He didn’t know what to think. He had no idea who this other tiger was.
