“I know you wouldn’t,” she purred back at him.

It took everything within her power to push him away with her butt, as the rest of the meal needed to be prepared, and Zara needed feeding. He backed off with a growl, then leaned up against the kitchen counter with his arms crossed, watching her.

She could feel his eyes on her, as scalding as the heat from the sun.

“I think you need to get your bags packed, darling,” he said, in a playful mood. “You and I are heading to Thailand in a few days.”

Kirsten had removed some carrots from the fridge and was holding a knife in the air when he spoke. Her eyebrows perked up, and her heart skipped a beat.

“Thailand?” she said, a look of innocence flashing across her face.

Henry was smirking again.

“I need to look for Sher. That was the last place she went after our divorce, to my knowledge, anyway. I thought it would be something different for you too.”

Kirsten felt excitement soar through her like an albatross. She gripped the handle of the knife, trying to keep herself from shaking with jubilation.

“My goodness Henry,” she said, cutting the carrots carefully. “That sounds so lovely, honestly. I’ve never been out of the country before.”

A part of her was bashful about the fact that she hadn’t ever left the comfort of her country, not even out of the cold winds of Colorado. But Henry didn’t bat an eye. He simply continued smiling with contentment.

“Is that so?” he muttered. “Well, then I will make sure it’s extra special for us.”

He leaned in and kissed her neck once more, sending shivers down her spine like a thousand crawling little caterpillars.

She wanted to jump up on the countertop and let him take her. It was like an addiction, trying to resist his flavors, the pure pleasure that he encouraged in her.

Kirsten turned to him, their lips brushing lightly.

“You’re so good to me,” she murmured.

Henry kissed her, long and deep, making her bend backward, away from the countertop. She was glad his hands curled around her hips because otherwise, she was sure she would have fainted.

He let her go just in time before things got too heated, then whispered, his warm breath on her lips like a calm wind.

“I’m going to take a shower,” he said, then gave her ass a tiny spank.

It echoed in the kitchen, making Kirsten gasp with a sultry giggle.

“You’re bad!” she called out to him.

He chuckled and ran out of the kitchen before she had a chance to scold him. She heard his footsteps upstairs, his big body making every corner of the mansion creak with his presence. Kirsten sighed, then continued prepping for their meal.

She couldn’t believe that she had found a life that was so satisfying so easily. She had let go of the idea of unprofessionalism because, hell, why would she want to give up something so deep and easy for the possibility of another job?

The only job she wanted now was to be the person who took care of Zara and to be Henry’s lover. She hadn’t summoned enough courage to tell him exactly how she was feeling, but it was growing. She hoped she would gain confidence in Thailand, an exotic land of opportunity.

Kirsten finished making dinner just in time, with Henry coming into the kitchen with Zara in his arms. She was fussing a little, but he wasn’t worried. The little girl looked like a loaf of bread in his massive arms.

“I think someone else is hungry,” he said with a grin.

Kirsten had never adored someone so much in her entire life.

TWENTY-ONE

HENRY

Henry had been to Thailand many times before since that was the place where tiger shifters originated. Though it had been some time since he’d last visited. It had begun to be a place he associated with loss and pain once Sher left him. But it was quickly growing in his heart again, with seeds of love planted and sprouting because his mate and his daughter were there with him.
