“They took her upstairs to the back rooms. That’s where we saw another person. We figured that was where they were holding Kirsten. Zara stopped crying when they went upstairs. They talked for a while. Everything seems calm right now.”

He took a breath in. Kirsten was here, and she was alive. He was relieved to hear that.

They continued, though. “They have the house surrounded tightly. There are guards everywhere. She thought about what she wanted, and she clearly wanted to keep you out.”

He scowled, knowing that was true. She took the girls while he was gone and did it quickly before he could see. She brought them here, hoping he wouldn’t be able to find them.

The others stood tall, waiting for guidance. “How do you want us to move forward?”

He didn’t know. He knew that he wanted to keep both of the girls safe. If he made the wrong decision, he knew that Sher wouldn’t think twice about hurting Kirsten.

He paced and ran his hands through his head. “Is there a back entrance?”

One of them nodded. “There is, but it’s useless. It’s surrounded.”

“And the front entrance is just as much,” another added.

“And the gate? Is it climbable?”

One nodded. “It is, but we are sure they have guards on the other side in case someone tries to hop it.”

He figured just as much. Sher thought about everything.

“Any ideas?” he asked, having none.

“We could charge,” someone commented, and he shook his head.

“No, they will take it out on Kirsten. We have to be careful.” At least for now.

He watched the guards move and then looked into the window. He could see her family members moving around on the main floor. He wondered what she had told them. Why were they helping her with everything?

He shook his head, needing to focus. He could think about all his unanswered questions later.

“Is there anyone here we can trust? Anyone?”

He wondered if there was a weak link. Would any of them let them pass for a little money? Sher probably paid them well, so that might not be an option for him.

He scowled when he noticed someone stepping outside the gate. Everyone tensed up as the man looked towards them. He walked straight for a few feet and then turned in their direction and made eye contact with him.

“Shit,” one of them cursed.

“Stay calm.” He pulled a hand up as the man approached. “Let him speak.”

The man paused a few feet away, looking at each of them. He then looked back at him. “Are you Henry?”

He swallowed, wondering if Sher had asked the man to come out here. Was she finally thinking straight?

“Yes.” He nodded his head. “And you are?”

“Kirsten helped me once, and I know that she is being held captive inside the house.”

His entire body stilled. Kirsten helped this man? When? Where?

“Is she okay?” he asked, needing to know.

The man nodded his head. “She is fine. She’s locked upstairs, away from everyone else. Sher just went upstairs with Zara.”

His chest hurt knowing that. He looked back at the house. “And how many people are inside?”
