Henry snarled, his hot breath creating smoke blasting out his nostrils. He took one giant step forward, which made the four men take a cautious step backward. This action caused Henry to break out in maniacal laughter.

“You fucking fools,” he purred at them, bowing his head to look even more menacing in the spotlight. “You are all terrible liars, and trust me, you will pay for it.”

With a darkness inside of him calling the shots, Henry grabbed hold of two of the men by their collars, then held them up over his head. They both cried out in pain and surprise, and he tossed him gently into the thin scatters of snow. He then yanked on the throats of the two remaining men, who dropped their guns like amateurs, eyes popping out of their sockets like in a horror cartoon.

Henry dragged them past the gate, then kicked in the front door. There were two more men standing behind it who clearly had no idea what they were getting themselves into. The top of the door smacked into one of them, rendering him unconscious. The other stood there pointing a shaky gun at Henry, terror taking over his expression.

Henry liked the effect he was having. It was the power of his love for both Kirsten and his little baby daughter, Zara.

If any harm came to the men, it would be Sher’s own doing.

“Where are my mate and daughter?!”

Henry’s voice boomed through the estate, making the ground rattle and the remaining guard shriek in fright. He didn’t care, though, all he wanted was to get his loves back, and no one would get hurt.

Well, maybe some people still might get hurt.

“Are you listening?!”

The man squealed like a pig and fell backward over the chair in the hallway while Henry stomped close to him. He towered over the man, who was still holding the gun but trembled in the presence of something so mighty as the alpha tiger shifter.

“She … she … she is …”

The guard stammered, but Henry didn’t have any patience. He slammed his fist into the wall, leaving a large knuckle-shaped indent. Bits of concrete rained over the unfortunate guard, who cowered with his hands over his head.

Henry leaned in close, seething, drool pouring from the barred teeth. He wanted to scare the man so much that he would never consider working for another degenerate like his ex-wife ever again.

“Go get Sher,” he hissed.“Now!”

The man slithered and stumbled away from beneath Henry’s massive frame all the way up the stairs beyond them. It was likely that was where Kirsten and Zara were being held captive, but he wanted to have words with his ex-first before any battle broke out.

A part of him wanted a fight to break out. He had been keeping so much hate inside for so long it would likely be cathartic.

He looked back at the bear shifters who were waiting for his cue should he require their assistance. He gave them a sturdy nod as they lingered beyond the gate, and the leader gave him one back.

Henry waited not so patiently for his ex-wife to come to him and to retrieve his rightful daughter and his newfound and gloriously wonderful mate.

FORTY-TWO

KIRSTEN

Kirsten squeezed her eyes shut as she tried to focus on holding Zara while Sher pulled her all the way through the kitchen and then back up the stairs to her bedroom. Tears streamed down her cheeks as the hair follicles strained, making her whole head sting. There was a point where everything around her started to fade to black, but she held onto reality through the grip of her fingers.

She had to keep Zara safe. That was all that really mattered.

“Get in here, you fucking idiot!”

Sher screamed at her as she threw her back inside the room. She crashed against the wall, keeping Zara safe and secure. She began to drift to the floor when Sher caught her by the shoulders, lifting her up to meet her eye line.

Kirsten didn’t realize it, but she was crying, not only from the pain of nearly having her scalp ripped off but also from the sheer thought of losing Zara and Henry. She blinked her eyes open to meet the flaming rage of Sher but found herself still unable to hate her.

“What made you think you could get away from me?” Sher snarled.

Kirsten shook her head frantically, speaking through blubbering tears.

“I never wanted to hurt you, Sher,” she whimpered. “I don’t want any harm to come to you, or the baby, or Henry. None of us want that!”

Sher gave her a mischievous smirk, one that informed Kirsten that she hadn’t absorbed a single word. Sher opened her mouth to respond, her teeth glaring in the dim light of the room, when a thunderous crash was heard from the level below.
