Leaning into her, I drop my head so our mouths are aligned. The taste of alcohol hits my tongue as our breaths mingle, and it takes everything inside of me not to press my lips into hers and taste it directly from her tongue.

“This is what you wanted tonight, no? For a man to take you, pin you against a wall while he thrusts himself inside of you?” To emphasise the point, I grind my erection against her panties and watch her eyes roll with lust as a moan slips from her mouth.

“Rule number four, Casper. What is it?”

She bites her bottom lip as I rub against her again, my grip on her throat punishing. Her eyes flutter closed, and she opens her mouth on a breathy moan.

“No touching,” she murmurs halfway between a groan and a moan when I pull her even closer. Her back arches slightly when my dick strains against my jeans, wanting to slide into her.

“So, why then, did you let somebody place their hands all over you?”

“I-I—” she stutters, stopping when I clamp a hand over her mouth.

“I told you what would happen, Casper,” I tell her, keeping my voice blank despite the war raging inside of me. I’ll get to let that out, just not here. “It’s a shame you didn’t believe me. Now you get to see what happens when you let someone touch something that belongs to me.”

THIRTY-FIVE

“Whatdoesthatmean?”I shout after Theodore as he stalks away from me. He doesn’t answer, just sends a feral grin my way before leaving the club. Leaving me. It’s funny how sober you can become when your world is upended in a single moment. “Fuck.”

This is not how the night was supposed to go. I blow out a breath, pushing off the wall to find my friends. I need to get out of here, I need to go after him, but I’m not sure that’s a good idea. I’ve never seen him so angry.

“Hey,” I call out to Betty over the loud music and chatter of the patrons. She’s whispering harshly to Gage, her hands in front of his face as her mouth moves a thousand miles a minute. “I’m going to head home.”

She nods at me, pulling away from her stepbrother with a scowl. “Let’s go.”

“Where’s Noah?” She shrugs, her eyes moving over the room. I don’t spot him, so I pull out my phone and let him know that we’re heading back, and we’ll meet him outside. Betty and I leave the club, and the moment the cold air kisses my skin, my eyes fill with tears.

“Hey, Fallon,” Betty says, spinning me to face her. “What’s going on?”

“I fucked up. I fucked up, big time, I think.”

“What do you mean?”

I tell her everything, all the moments between Theodore and me over the last couple of days. She listens quietly, watching me with no judgement in her eyes as the words fall out of me. When I’m finished, she says nothing, just throws an arm around me and pulls me into a tight hug.

Noah finds us, looking at us both before pulling out his phone and calling a taxi. Neither of my friends say anything on the ride home. We reach the dorm, and Noah sticks the kettle on while Betty and I change.

“What are you going to do?” he asks me, passing me a mug when I leave my room dressed in a pair of grey joggers and a matching hoodie. My hair has been twisted fully into the claw clip with only a few short strands dangling behind my ear where I’ve tucked them back.

“What can I do?”

“You could talk to him,” he tells me, pulling me into his chest and massaging the nape of my neck with his fingertips. I let out a sigh, closing my eyes.

“Talking isn’t really our thing.”

“Well, maybe it should be. Have you ever thought if maybe you’d have just spoken to him after he told you he wanted to be with you, that all this confusion could have been cleared up. Theo isn’t the kind of guy who says things he doesn’t mean, baby girl.”

“Oh, now you’re telling me.” I laugh dryly, sitting up and looking at him. “You and Betty were the ones trying to push me to go on a date with someone else.”

“Don’t do that. Don’t put the blame on us. We had no idea what was really going on with the two of you. You ran from him, and I get it. I probably would have done the same, but now you have to be a big girl and deal with your shit.”

“You didn’t see how he looked at me, Noah, if I thought he hated me before, it’s nothing compared to that look in his eyes tonight.”

“Doubtful.” He shakes his head, looking at me with a curious gaze. “You really don’t see it, do you?”

“See what?”

He shakes his head again, a ghost of a smile passing his lips before he schools his expression. “Not my place to tell you.”
