Something wet draggedover my brow, and my pulse throbbed in my head like I’d been run over by a semi-truck. My breath rushed in, and my chest tightened. A dry cough racked my body. I opened my eyes to darkness, blinking with confusion, unsure where I was, or even what the last thing I did was.

“Oh good, you’re finally awake,” a female’s voice snapped impatiently.

I raised my head from the seat I was slouched in, searching the dark shadows of the room for who was speaking. But I couldn’t make anyone out.

“Where am I?” I whimpered, trying to move, only to find my hands were tied at my back and my ankles to the seat legs…which of course threw me into panic. I thrashed for release, fear spiking through my veins.

A click sounded, followed by a bright light flooding the room, blinding me momentarily.

I squinted, then slowly blinked to make out that I was in a bathroom sitting in a chair. sickness rose through me, confusion fluttering in my chest like a caged bird with nowhere to go.

I kept licking my dry lips, shaking terribly.

In front of me stood the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. Long black hair that seemed to curl around her, a flowing white dress that was transparent, revealing her heavy breasts and the apex between her legs. She stood there proudly, a cruel glint in her gaze. I hadn’t thought such beautiful people existed outside of magazines.

I searched her face for any sympathy, for a clue as to what was going on.

“D-Do I know you?” I asked.

“Unfortunately for you, yes.” Venom filled her voice, and her smile resembled something I’d expect from a psychopath.

My throat tightened, and I squirmed in my seat. “Why am I here? Please…let me go,” I begged.

“Now why would I do that…when I have so much fun hurting you.”

I shivered under the malevolent stare she gave me.

The woman strolled towards me and snatched a fistful of hair on top of my head, wrenching my head back. “I’ve had enough of you ruining my plans. Things are going to change. I’ve taken everything from you…and you won’t even remember what you’ve lost.”

“What?”

“I’ve taken your memories, Rune.” She grinned at her confession. Sadistic bitch.

I knew my name was Rune, who my mother was, and that I grew up listening to her reading Harry Potter to me. There were other things, just out of reach in my mind, blurred out by fog, but I couldn’t make anything out.

“What are you?” My head ached as I struggled to remember anything…even yesterday.

“You can call me ‘Your Fae Majesty.’” She smiled wickedly, rather enjoying herself. Her shoulders curled forward, and I shoved to get away from her, the chair skipping over the tiled flooring in my attempt.

“Get away from me, you bitch.”

I screamed for help, but she slapped me, nails digging across my cheek, tearing flesh. I cried out, the sharp pain flaring across my face, and tears streamed out from the corners of my eyes.

Her ice cold eyes dipped to my chest, widening with surprise, and she let go of my hair. “Now, what is that you’ve got there?”

I glanced down, finding myself wearing a necklace I didn’t recognize. The chain partially stuck up and over the neckline of my shirt. And attached to it was a beautiful blue stone, giving off a light glow. It was spectacular. How could I not remember owning such a gorgeous necklace?

Glancing back up, the woman’s eyes darkened, and her features morphed into something hideous, a scowl that made me think of a demon. Was that what she was?

She lunged at me, hands greedily snatching for the necklace.

Panicked, I screamed, doing my best to pull away from her. But in that same split second, a blast of air came out of nowhere, blowing right past me from behind, ripping at my clothes and tossing hair into my face.

The powerful wind collided into the woman with the force of a bullet train, tossing her backward. She slammed into the door so hard that it ripped off its hinges, sending it swinging outward. She then in turn banged into the wall out in the hallway.

I screamed, and savagely thrashed against my bindings. The world blotted in and out of darkness, until I lost the fight.

“You must hurry up, the guests have already arrived at the ball,” Amina said, holding up my gown in her hands. A violet dress with long sleeves, a tight corset, and flowing layers of satin.
