“Babe. You dropped me too. Straight out in a KO.

“Dean, please—”

“Okay, I’ll stop with the metaphoric bullshit since I know you hate it so much.” He grinned like a fool. O responded by nudging his arm with a smirk, but it was wiped from her face with his next words. “I’m in love with you, babe.”

His deep voice trembled over her skin, and her heartbeat staggered painfully. “It’s my badassery, isn’t it?”

Dean shook his head as he chuckled, pushing a strand of hair off her forehead, then slid his fingertips down the side of her face. “It’s just you, babe. O, it’s just you.”

Her lower lip quivered, and she drank in the moment, the man. She was lucky this time around—and smarter. She was terrified of losing him. “I love you, too.”

He smiled widely.

“I’m so glad we didn’t do this naked,” she said. “You have no concentration when we’re naked. Well…” She smiled. “When you’re naked, you’re thinking with the wrong head.”

He leaned his head back and laughed out loud. When he could talk again, he said, “Okay, that’s fair. But I’ve got plenty of brain activity right now. I’m going to accept the job. I was just about to tell him.”

She smiled. “Oh, God. What is Hardass going to say about my outburst?”

He laughed softly. “Hardass again. You guys are killing me.”

He wrapped his arm around her, and they went back in. Hard—Harkness, Jess, Gage, Logan, and Ave all looked at them as they came inside.

“Hardass—”

Ophelia bit the inside of her cheek.

“Dammit,” Dean muttered under his breath.

Everyone tried to keep it in, but then burst out with laughter.

“I meant Harkness,” Dean said firmly.

“Yes.” The general stood, the corner of his mouth lifting, then he narrowed his eyes as if he were expecting a blow.

But Dean smiled. “You got yourself a leader.”

“And your team?”

He turned to the group. “Ave, Gage, Logan, Jess, and…” he turned to Ophelia. “…O.”

She looked up at him and smiled. “You can’t afford me.”

Dean laughed and pulled her tightly to him.

“Five for five,” General Harkness said, beaming at them all.

“Six,” Dean said with a grin. You forget Granny Steele works here too.” General Harkness groaned.

“What about code names?” Ave said. “All government agents have code names.”

“I’ll go by Apex,” Gage said.

“Shotgun,” Ave said with a grin.

“Bullet,” Logan said. “And the women?”

“Jess has to be MIT,” Gage said, and she smiled and nodded.
