I shuffle across until I can stand. “Thanks,” I mutter, then stalk through the crowd to the bar, waving down Jase when I catch his eye. He lifts his chin in acknowledgement then reaches under the bar for a fresh jug before filling it to the brim.

“Anything else while you’re up here?” he asks when he reaches me.

Why not? It is Friday, after all.“Five shots of Jameson, please and thank you.”

Jase grins. “Comin’ right up.”

Oh,my god.

Walking into Jack’s tonight, the last thing I expected to see was the love of my life on top of the bar dancing her ass off in six-inch heels.

Yet here I stand.

“Pick up your jaw, son, you’re drooling,” my dad says from beside me, a smug grin on his stupid face.

I snap my mouth closed. “What is she doing? How did she even get up there on those stilts?”

“Jesus, not again,” my coworker, Kline mutters from behind me.

I shoot him a quick glare over my shoulder. “What do you mean, again?”

Kline being the uptight asshole he is, ignores me. He remains stoic as he pushes into the crowd, making a path as he stomps toward the bar. I follow behind him, making use of the route he’s cleared.

When I reach the bar, my gaze is drawn up a pair of long, toned legs encased in skin-tight black pants. I peer up at the most beautiful woman in the room and she does a weird little booty shake slash squat thing, smiling down at me.

“Hey!” Belle yells over the music from the live band. “Come dance with me!”

My eyes widen as she latches onto the collar of my shirt, tugging me forward. I wrap my fingers around her slim wrists. “Let’s not and say I did,” I call up to her.

She frowns and shakes her head back and forth, sending her blonde ponytail swishing around her like a cat o’nine tails whip. It slaps me in the face, and I wince. But she’s oblivious and still trying to tug me up onto the bar with her.

“Val, you never dance with me!” she whines.

“How much whiskey have you had?” Kline asks her.

She giggle-snorts.

Dear god, she’s tanked.

Which I kind of already knew but Belle snorting is the most un-Belle thing in the universe. She’ll die if she finds out shesnorted.

“Okay drunky, let’s get you down,” I say, sliding my hands from her wrists to her elbows, then higher. “Come on, before you break your neck up there.”

“Pfft, there’s literally nothing I can’t do in heels. Who do you think you’re talking to?”

“A very drunk girl whose coordination is likely compromised…”

She arches a brow and stares at me. I take advantage of her moment of deliberation, tugging her toward me. She falls into my waiting arms with a high pitched squeal that rings in my ears. But I don’t even care about the possible damage to my eardrums because she’s wrapped around me like a python, and I love it.

With her face pressed into my neck, she groans, “Dick move, Val.”

“Sorry Bee,” I murmur into her honey and vanilla scented hair. I’m not sorry, not even a little bit. But she doesn’t need to know that.

“You good with her?” Kline asks.

I’d forgotten he was there. Turning to face him, I nod. “Yep.”

He grunts something unintelligible, then turns back to the bar and waves down Jase.
