“We’re saved,” Carter says. “No thanks to Adrian.”

“Hey, I caught all those demonic spirits so the Dark Lord could collect them, didn’t I?”

“Did you?” he asks.

Rachel looks at me. I can tell she’s thinking the same thing I am. Whatever happened to that last one? The one who was supposed to be hiding in that corridor we had sex in.

“We should warn Mabel,” she says, handing me the keys to the house as she digs her phone out of her bag. “Just in case.”

I head to the door, Carter waiting for Rachel now that she’s on the phone.

I push in the key, but it won’t fit.

The door’s already unlocked. There’s a set of keys in the other side.

“What the hell?”

The door creaks open and I push it harder.

A gray hand grasps hold of my wrist and yanks me inside.

The demon looks like the one Silas killed in the illusion that looked like our house.

Shit.He took my keys, and he came here.

He hauls me upward by my arm, snarling at me.

I can’t attack him while I’m dangling in the air and hurting him won’t stop him. I need a killing blow.

“Carter!” I yell, hoping my Omega can hear the urgency in my call.

Clearly, he didn’t notice the demon dragging me into the house.

I lash out at his big, ugly face, but all that does is strain my muscles.

He shoves me up against the wall, moving his hand to my throat.

I claw at his forearm, his wrist. He just growls, his stare burning through me.

If he kills someone they go to hell in his place.

That’s what he wants. That’s why he’s here.

He can’t be taken while he’s solid.

He won’t be taken at all if he succeeds in his mission.

Carter finally gets into the house, while I’m struggling to gasp in another breath.

His eyes widen. “Oh, shit …”

He glances around and grabs something I can’t see.

“Here goes nothing,” he mutters, stabbing something into the demon’s back.

I don’t see an exit wound and it only seems to make the demon angry.

He roars at me, forcing me to close my eyes.
