Even though she was being annoying about it she was 100% right. Gabriel Farrington was a good looking man. A very good looking man.

I sat on the other end of the long dining table. The only sound that could he heard was the clinking of our cutlery against the ceramic plates.

Gabriel had said all of five words to me since he sat down for dinner. He was now out of his work attire and was in shorts and a polo shirt.

I cleared my throat trying to fill the air with more sound. “So how was your day?”

Gabriel placed his cutlery on his plate and looked up at me slowly. He leaned back in his chair looking ever more authoritative and regal. “It was fine.”

I waited for him to ask about my day but he never did. He just kept looking at me.

“My day was fine, thanks for asking.”

“I never asked.” His voice was so monotone and calm it was unnerving. I rarely saw this man get upset or happy. He was just in this constant state of meh.

“We can’t eat dinner like this every night.”

“What do you mean by that?”

I gestured between him and I. “This awkwardness is weird. We need to talk and have conversations. If I am going to do this then we need to get on some kind of friendship level.”

He cocked an eyebrow at me. “What do you mean by that?”

“I mean that I would love to talk to you like a normal person. Not be sitting in silence like we are strangers.” I explained. “We don’t have to divulge our family secrets or anything like that. But it would be nice if we could make small talk.”

“I hate small talk.”

“Well then you need to un-hate it.”

“That’s not a word.”

“You know what I mean.”

He shrugged and grabbed his fork. “Fine. Let’s small talk then. Did you move in alright?”

I nodded. “Everything was great.”

“And your friend, the one with the blonde hair.”

“Alana?”

He nodded. “She doesn’t like me very much does she?”

“I mean, it’s not that she doesn’t like you per say.” She despised him.

“I know when people don’t like me. I have a very good read on people. Like your other friend, the one with the nose ring and black hair. She’s obsessed with me.”

I scoffed. “Ava is not obsessed with you.”

“She thinks I’m walking sex on legs. If she isn’t obsessed then at the very least she thinks I’m attractive.”

“Very bold of you to assume this.”

“It’s not an assumption. I heard you guys talking.”

My fork paused halfway to my mouth. “What do you mean?”

‘When you were talking in the living room. I heard you guys talking.”
