“I am a nurse. Helping people is what I do.” I winked at him. I couldn’t believe how flirty I was being. That was not normally me. I was never one to make a move on a guy, ever.

After a few minutes of silence, I finished mending his wound. “All good now.”

He looked down at his side. I had done a fast but professional job. Well professional enough for being in my kitchen. I knew that he was in some pain from the wincing I saw on his face, but I really thought it was more his nerves from his fear of needles.

“Thank you.”

“No problem.” I stood up, shutting my first aid kit. “I guess I owe you a sucker now,” I joked.

“How about you just tell me where it is?” His voice wasn’t friendly. It had suddenly gone cold and it gave me chills.

I smirked at Georgia as she was frozen in place at my comment. Playtime was over and it was time to get down to business. I was going to offer her the chance to make it easy.

The way I saw it, she had 2 choices: show me where she hid what my boss’s son wanted and I would kill her quickly so she didn’t feel any pain, or I would torture the information out of her. I didn’t want to hurt that pretty face, but I had a job to get done.

“I don’t know what you are talking about.” Her voice was shaky. I wanted to applaud her acting. She was believable.

“Yes, you do. You have something that isn’t yours and you are trying to use it to get whatever you want from my boss’s family. He doesn’t take kindly to threats so let’s cut the crap. Just tell me where it is and this can be over quickly.”

She looked at me with confusion. I will admit it made me question my boss’s son. I briefly wondered if he could be wrong. But then I remembered the time when a woman convinced me that my boss had it wrong and she was innocent. I had almost gotten myself killed. Good thing I was a fast thinker.

“Princess, you aren’t going to fool me. I’ve met your type before. And I’ve taken out your type.”

“I am not fooling you. I have no idea what you are talking about.” She straightened herself up as if she had a sudden burst of courage. “You’ve overstayed your welcome. Get out of my apartment.” She started to walk towards the exit of the kitchen.

“Not so fast.” I pulled my gun, which had been tucked into the back of my pants. When we walked to her apartment, I had moved it from the inside of my jacket… I didn’t want her to know I was armed.

I now pointed the gun at her. “Just show me where you have it hidden and this will all be over.”

She stopped and slowly turned around towards me. She was frozen in place, looking down at my gun. Finally, after a few seconds, she stuttered out a “W-what?”

“Tsk. Tsk. I guess you wanna do it the hard way. You have two more chances to come clean and I won’t have to harm that pretty skin of yours. Well, not much anyway.” I felt my adrenaline pumping. This was why I was in this line of work. The danger gave me a thrill.

“I don’t know what you want from me!” She had tears in her eyes, as well as real fear. I had to remind myself she was probably acting so I’d let my guard down, then she could get to where she had her weapon stashed. We were in this. And this woman wouldn’t be taking me out.

“One more chance.” I gave her a sinister smile.

“Listen, Jerad,” she said my fake name with such disgust. “I don’t know who you think I am, but you have it wrong. I don’t have anything that belongs to anyone else. If you leave, I won’t tell anyone. I’ll forget I ever met you.”

“Not going to work, Sweetheart. I guess time is up. I had hoped you’d make this easier. I am feeling like a generous man, with you stitching up my wound and all. I will give you one last chance to tell me where you have what you stole from Donovan Zoria and it’ll all be over quickly.”

As soon as I revealed my boss’s son's name, I saw a look of shock on her face. She dropped her first aid kit. As the box hit the tile floor, it opened and its contents scattered all over the floor. “Did you say Donovan Zoria?”

“Now you suddenly know who I’m talking about, huh?”

“What about him?” Her voice was shaky.

“He hired me to take care of you so you don’t use what you have been threatening him and his family with.” I didn’t think there was any harm in revealing who hired me and why I was there. She wasn’t going to make it out alive to tell anyone.

“He’s alive?” She looked at me with intense emotion, as if she was afraid of my answer.

“Of course he is. I know that probably disappoints you.” Before I could say anymore, her body dropped to the ground as she fainted. I hadn’t expected that to happen.
