Nik looked down at Jules, a bemused look on his face. “You did this?”

“You told me when I was ready, all I had to do was ask. I’m ready. Still want to marry me?” Jules held her breath. She was sure Nik hadn’t changed his mind, but it was such a public thing to do.

A huge grin split Nik’s face, and he picked her up and hugged her tight. “I love you more than words, you wonderful, brilliant, stubborn woman. Of course I’ll marry you.” He captured her mouth with his, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, pushing up on her toes to press against him.

Jules was almost oblivious to the roar of the crowd and the announcer saying, “I think he said yes!”

Nik pulled back and pressed his forehead against hers. “I think the crowd is waiting for us. Ready to face the sports world?”

Joy bubbled in her chest. This time it was for real. They were going to be a family. “I’m ready for anything as long as I have you.”

Nik set her down beside him and wrapped an arm around her before they turned to face the cameras that had never panned away from their kiss. With interlaced fingers, Nik lifted their arms to wave at the cameras. Jules spotted the prearranged member of the sound team standing nearby, waiting with a mic. The team member handed it to Nik.

“I did say yes! She’s never getting rid of me now.” The crowd roared at this, and Nik looked down at her. He’d shoved his sunglasses to the top of his head earlier, and pure adoration reflected from his eyes.

Jules took the mic from Nik, laughing. “I couldn’t be happier about that. Oh, and if this is being broadcast in Canada? Surprise, everyone!” At this comment, the crowd rocked with laughter, and the camera finally began to pan to other sections of the park.

Nik pulled her close and kissed her again, his lips moving slowly over hers. The heat of the summer sun was nothing compared to the fire he was stoking inside her.

“Why here?” Nik whispered when he finally broke the kiss.

Jules smiled up at him, her joy making her euphoric. “That night at a hockey game when we wound up on the kiss cam, it changed everything for us. I couldn’t think of a better place to make our relationship permanent and share it with the world.”

Nik pressed a kiss on the top of her head. “This was amazing. No wonder you wouldn’t go back to the hotel with me; you needed us here for your surprise.”

Elated that her plan had worked so well, Jules grinned as she tilted her head to meet Nik’s gaze. “I’ve been planning this for weeks; there was no way I was going to miss it. I’m glad you liked it.”

“When we get home, I’ll give you your ring.” Nik touched the ring finger on her left hand.

“We can go ring shopping if you want, but I don’t need a ring. Definitely not anything fancy.”

“I have a ring already. It belonged to Yaya and has been passed down to the wife of the firstborn for years. I was supposed to give it to Vanessa, but ... it never felt right. I want you to have it. Unless you want something new, something completely yours.”

The idea of wearing a ring that had been in Nik’s family for generations, of becoming part of that family, made her heart want to burst out of her chest. Family was everything. “There’s nothing I’d like more than to wear your family ring.”

Nik’s smile melted her heart, leaving a raging inferno deep in her chest. She needed this man, in a bed, now.

“Do you care about the rest of the game?” God, she hoped not. “Wanna play hooky and head out early?”

“Your wish is my command, princess. Let’s go.” Nik grabbed her hand and led her out of the ballpark.

DIRTY LAUNDRY

Matt Foster, detective constable with the Vancouver police department, looked down at the body in the bathtub and swore under his breath. He hadn’t thought much of the news when his partner Rebecca Sutton had told him there had been a homicide at Harbourview Casino Resort. He and Rebecca worked sex crimes, only being called into to assist on homicides when there was a visible sexual element to the crime. Unfortunately, all evidence pointed toward that with this death.

Rebecca had volunteered for this case when the call came in, because her boyfriend Nate Quinn was the assistant manager at Harbourview. Nate was a former military police officer, so had done everything possible to protect the scene. Right now, there were a cluster of people standing in the hallway outside the room, waiting for the coroner and forensic investigators to arrive.
