Page 14 of Facing Daemon

“You ready?” I ask after getting my boots tied.

“Yep,” she answers, adjusting the messy bun on the top of her head.

Fucking cute the way she does that. I never understood how someone could simply put their hair up and make it look good at the same time not really taking the time to style it. But this is something Everleigh is prone to do a lot. I think the only time she doesn’t have it like this is when she wears it straight or braids it to fall over her shoulder. Never have I seen her with it any other way.

“Let’s get going,” I grunt, ready to get this shit over with.

“Okay,” she says, reaching out to take my hand.

Together, we make our way out to my bike. I swing a leg over and steady my girl while Everleigh climbs on behind me. I twist the key and the beautiful beast comes alive beneath me. I’d grin at the shudder I feel pressed against my back. I know what the vibration of the bike does to my woman, and it’s a damn shame I won’t be able to enjoy the aftermath of it. At least not right away.

I pull into the club’s parking area and curse under my breath at the sight of three cruisers parked and several of my brothers standing to the side. With the officers, there’re three other people. Everleigh tenses at my back, and I know she sees them.

I ignore everyone and park my bike alongside the others and shut her down. Everleigh hops off when I tap her thigh. I follow suit and wrap an arm around her waist. “Don’t worry, Evs, we got this under control. Remember, they can’t do anything or force you to go anywhere with them.”

Everleigh nods vigorously and sucks in a harsh breath. “This is why you didn’t want to tell me at the house what was going on.”

“Yeah, baby, I didn’t. You’d have worried and that’s something you don’t need to be doing.”

“Right.”

I press a kiss on her forehead and guide her over to where my brothers are standing.

“See, officers, they have my daughter. They’ve kidnapped her.” Dixie cries hysterically. Her arm stretched out in our direction with her body turned slightly.

“Great, she’s going to act this way,” Everleigh mumbles, seeming to be talking to herself.

“Sugar,” I murmur and pull her tighter against my side.

Two of the officers close the distance between us and look from Everleigh to me and back again. I notice one of them is Trey, Lana’s older brother.

“Officers,” I grunt in greeting.

“Daemon.” Trey nods in acknowledgment and turns to Everleigh. “Are you Everleigh Bates?”

“Yes, but my last name’s not Bates anymore. It’s Masons,” she answers, leaning deeper into my side.

“That’s what I thought. Lana mentioned Daemon got married,” Trey mutters and shakes his head.

“Don’t listen to a word that girl says. They’ve brainwashed her,” Dixie yells.

The other officer next to Trey sighs and shakes his head.

“I’ve got this, Allen,” Trey says, speaking to the other officer.

“Right. Let’s just get this done and get on with the night.” This coming from Allen.

“Agreed. We were woken in the middle of the night for this, and I’m not thrilled about it in the least,” Reaper mutters, joining the conversation.

“Understandable. And I’m sorry about this, Reaper,” Trey grumbles and looks to Everleigh. “Ma’am, if you can come with me. I just need to ask you a few questions.” He then brings his eyes to me. “I’ve gotta do this shit and you gotta stay back while I do it.”

“I don’t think so, Trey. Everleigh’s my wife, and I’m not letting her handle any of this shit alone.” I growl, tightening my arm around my woman.

Trey shakes his head, sighing heavily. “Fine. Let’s just get this done,” he mutters and looks to Everleigh. “Ma’am, have these men taken you against your will?”
