Uncertain, I make my way into the building, immediately spotting Everett in the middle of the open space. My heart lurches at the sight of Carl hog-tied on the floor only a handful of feet away from Everett, blood coating the man’s face.
Please let him be okay.
“Looks like you were able to do as you were told for a change.”
I twirl around to find my uncle standing there with my father and mother. Go figure it wasn’t just one or the other. All three were in on it.
“Can any of you do things without the other two? Or are you all of one mind?” I snap without thinking. I’m sure I shouldn’t have, but I’m sick of their shit.
My mother closes the distance between us and slaps me with enough force to send me stumbling backward. “Don’t you dare think you can speak that way,” she sneers and spits at me. “You are a disgrace and it’s time you do as you are told.”
I reach up and rub my cheek where my mother struck me. Guess you can say when it comes to her or the two men, nothing changes.
CHAPTERTWENTY
DAEMON
I swear when I get Everleigh back, I’m going to spank her ass red for this shit. She fucking knows better than to handle something like this without me. I don’t give a fuck what her reasons are. Everleigh knows she can’t risk herself right now. She’s got our kid inside her.
What the hell was she thinking?
The note she left on the door said someone sent her a picture and she had no choice but to go. At least she was smart enough to leave an address.
My phone vibrates in my pocket, pulling me from my thoughts.I mutter a curse and yank the damn thing out. Seeing Styxx’s name lighting up the screen, I swipe my finger over the glass and answer putting it on speaker for Tombstone and me to hear. Styxx and a few others stayed behind to keep an eye on the ol’ ladies. With this bullshit, none of us knew if this was a setup. Hell, it could be a way for them to not only get at my woman but ambush the club. It wouldn’t be the first time someone tried.
“What do you have for me?” I demand.
“I know that your woman didn’t say shit.” He grunts. “Seems those bastards sent her a picture of a boy tied to a chair. Fuckin’ kid looks scared out of his mind. They threatened his life.”
“Motherfucker. Has to be Everett.” I snarl, slamming my fist on the dashboard.
“Everett?”
“Yeah, long story fuckin’ short. It’s her son that they refused to let her have. The nurse who helped birth him, she and her husband took him then ran.”
“How’d you get this information?” Styxx growls through the phone.
“Everleigh told me about it after we got back from the run,” I answer and explain what all she’d found out herself. I don’t leave anything out because I know my brother’s probably got his fingers flying across a keyboard searching for any and all information, he can find himself.
“So, this explains all the more why she left.”
It did but doesn’t mean I like it. In fact, I fucking hate it and want to murder the motherfuckers for putting her through even more shit than she’s already been.
Getting off the phone with Styxx, I lean back, banging my head against the headrest.
“Keep it together, brother,” Tombstone says, glancing my way.
“Easier said than done. It’s not just Everleigh I’ve got to worry about,” I grind out, clenching my teeth, hoping like fuck everything works out.
“We’ll get her and the kid. They’ll be okay.”
“It’s not just that, Tombstone. Fuck. Evs is pregnant.”
“Fuck. Right. I see why you’re stressed and pissed more than usual,” Tombstone mutters. “But remember something. Evs is smart. She wouldn’t do something like this without a plan. She didn’t get that much of a head start and she sure as fuck didn’t leave us guessing on where to go. She’s a fighter, and we all fuckin’ know it.”
“Yeah, she is, don’t mean her plan isn’t shit.”
Everleigh is a fighter, I’ll agree, but fuck, when does the bullshit end for her, and she can be safe. I fucking told her that I’d protect her. Let nothing happen. And here we are, she’s going head-on, getting a head start on us straight into danger to face off with the bastards who have wanted to hurt her all her life.
