In a flash, I remember the old coffee can that has my life savings in it. Money tucked away for emergency use only, which I dash for.

Lifting the lid, I stifle a groan, seeing only a couple of crumpled twenties.

Instantly recalling the last ‘emergency’ I had was the sale where I bought new work pants and boots.

Something not included in our employment contract.

I reach for the bills anyhow, figuring it’s at least enough to get us to a hospital.

The only hospital within a few miles that has ‘Sisters’ in it that aren’t just nurses that I know of is the old orphanage, a kid’s hospital now. Part of Saint Rosemary’s Hospital and Research center.

It’s not far, and something in my gut tells me there might just be a Sister O’Halloran there too.

I hurriedly rush to tell Steve my brainwave, pleased when I see his head nodding, still deep in thought – but feeling a little hurt again when he recovers from his reverie.

“Eh? Uh, no,” he says point blank, like a boss to an employee.

“I said no hospitals or cops, and I meant it,” he almost growls before softening his tone and the lines in his face smooth out again.

“I’d much rather just do things my way, Holly. I just need some time to….”

He staggers forward mid-sentence, and although I have no way to possibly catch him or hold him up, I hurl myself between him and the floor, feeling his huge hand gripping my shoulder for support.

“Teammates, right?” I remind him, hooking his arm around my neck as I help him sit down again.

He sighs loudly, finally nodding after inspecting the deepening red of the towel from his head.

“Alright, kiddo. Have it your way,” he says, smiling to himself and shaking his head as I announce I need to get changed.

“But change here. Right in front of me,” he says with a sly but commanding grin, widening his legs as he sits to give what I know is his already growing arousal more room to move.

Some sickness you got there, buddy. But alright.

If being undressed and eaten out by Steve Carter was the single biggest sexual moment of my life, then re-dressing in front of him and hearing his growls of approval is already running a close second.

I don’t have the sexiest wardrobe, not by a long shot. But with his direction and having me turn this way or that, pausing here and letting him see a little of something else, we’re back to one swollen bulge in no time.

Far from looking faint anymore, he looks stronger than ever, primed for action again, and I notice he’s discarded the bloodied towel. His head’s not bleeding anymore, but I can see at a glance there’s a nasty gash that’ll need stitches.

His hands grab hold of me, squeezing me as he growls some more, and I have to remind him that he has promised to at least see a doctor.

“We can deal with your otherproblemlater,” I hear myself giggling, already counting the seconds until he has me naked in his arms again.

“You bet we will,” he assures me, and I bend down to fetch his clothes before we leave, instructing him to dress, feeling a little like a nurse myself.

While he fixes his shirt and jacket, I lift the massive, heavy coat from the floor, and without going through it like I know he already has a dozen times, I have to ask.

“Where’s your cell phone? Your keys?”

All the stuff most people have on them, least of all a man of the world like Steve Carter would.

He shrugs and frowns. “I’ve asked myself that too. Although I don’t remember everything, those guys were really only after my wallet.”

“You wouldn’t have gone out without your phone and keys, would you?” I ask aloud, not meaning it to sound as stupid as it does, but Steve doesn’t seem to mind.

“I know. It's nuts. Maybe the hospital can help,” he finally offers, grimacing a little at the thought.

I wonder why he has such a thing against hospitals and cops.
