His kidneys and the curve of his back have been spared, but angry red welts litter his backside from his lower thighs to just under his hips. It looks disgustingly painful, and I won’t envy Remi when he puts his jeans back on. There’s several swipes against the points of his shoulders as well, and without the cushion of his paltry fat and muscles, I’m guessing that hurt like a bitch.

My love obviously didn’t think this through, and I’d bet money he doesn’t have a softer, more forgiving change of clothes with him.

“And did you find what you were looking for from this endeavor?” I taunt him, running my finger down his spine. Goosebumps break out over his skin, and I close the distance between us. Careful not to touch any of the patches of skin that are red and inflamed, I bring my lips to his back, and place butterfly kisses over the exposed flesh.

He’s panting and trembling as soon as my mouth touches his skin.

His response is so addictive. I don’t know how I’ve gone without it so long.

“Not until you showed up,” he admits, swaying on his feet. “I didn’t get to subspace until I saw your face.”

I bite my lip to swallow my moan at the way his words affect me. My hands grasp the front of his hips, and I try desperately to ignore the way his body responds to mine.

“That wasn’t subspace, love,” I whisper against the back of his ear. “That was shock.”

“Oh,” he says dumbly, and I chuckle under my breath.

Remi’s hips cant backwards, and his ass rubs against the front of my jeans. I can’t tell if the keening noise that rips painfully from his throat is because the little bit of contact hurt him, or because he can feel how hard I am.

He does it again, and I think I have my answer.

“I won’t take you here, Remi. Not right now. Not like this.”

“Why?” He asks, his voice raspy.

I take another step back so I’m not tempted to give into the gift he’s offering.

“Because I deserve better than that,” I tell him honestly, and watch as his shoulders cave in on themselves. “I won’t allow myself to be used, no matter how much I might want to.”

Remi nods his head in a ragged rhythm, then bends at his knees to pick up his robe. I pull my phone from my back pocket and swipe my thumb across the front.

“Get dressed, love, and I’ll call an Uber. Let’s get you home.”

“I don’t need a babysitter,” he snaps at me, aaand angry Remi is back.

Fabulous.

“Excuse me if I beg to differ,” I say playfully, trying not to let him see how upset I still am. “Because what happened here tonight can never happen again. The only way I know you’ll go home is if I tuck you into bed myself.”

Remi huffs in annoyance at me, then hisses in discomfort when he pulls his trunks over his ass.

“Fuck, that hurts,” he mumbles, and I bite my tongue to keep my sarcastic comments to myself.

“That’s what you wanted, isn’t it?” I spit out anyway, and mentally kick myself when Remi gives me a dirty expression.

He looks over my shoulder and shakes his head at my phone.

“I’m not at the apartment anymore,” he tells me, and I jerk in surprise at his words.

“What?” I ask him stupidly, blinking wide at the admission. “Where the fuck did you move? Andwhen? I haven’t seen anything about it on your calendar.”

He blushes fiercely, then avoids my eyes completely.

“Dammit, Remi,” I say in exasperation, running my fingers through my hair. “What did you do this time?”

He licks his lips in that nervous way of his and picks a spot over my shoulder to stare at. His jeans are on now, and I try not to salivate at how gorgeous he is without a shirt. My cock is rebelling over the no fucking an injured Remi declaration, and is trying to wave hello at the man through my pants.

“I quit my job. Last week,” he says, and my breathing catches when my jaw hits the floor. “I, ah—” A blush rises up his cheeks and he swallows thickly as he fights to get the words out. He finally looks me in the eye, and I feel like the floor has fallen out from underneath me. “I came out, as it were, at the annual meeting of the board, and quit. Deb helped me pack my clothes and move out that night. I didn’t want to risk my old man trying to have me evicted, since the apartment is owned by the company. I’m staying in a hotel until I can find something for myself. Some of my accounts he can cut me off from, but most of those I never touched anyway. My trust is mine alone. There’s nothing he can do about that.”
