I laugh along with her. Bree doesn’t like it when I keep surprises from her. She always has to know. That’s why I sometimes torment her by telling her I’ve got a surprise. It makes me laugh to see her squirm.

“I don’t know,” I say. “I’m not sure you deserve to know just yet.”

“If you tell me, I’ll do that thing you like later.”

“Let’s not kid ourselves here. You’ll do it anyway because you know you get as much back as you give,” I tell her with a devious grin.

“Damn you. You’re right,” she says. “Even still, if you tell me, I’ll think of something new and interesting to try that you might like.”

“Now, that’s intriguing.”

“Oh, believe me, daddy... I’ll make it worth your while,” she says.

“I think I believe you.”

“You should.”

“I still don’t know if I should tell you.”

She squeals again and throws herself on top of me, pushing me onto my back and straddles me, holding onto my arms. The tip of her nose is mere inches from mine and her blue eyes sparkle mischievously.

“Tell me and I’ll let you up,” she says.

“I kind of like it when you’re on top,” I reply. “That’s not really much of a threat.”

“Damn. You’re right about that too.”

I laugh and lean up, giving her a quick peck on the lips. “We’re finally going to take that honeymoon,” I tell her. “We’re going to Paris. To start.”

Her eyes widen and her mouth falls open, a look of joy and surprise crossing her face. We had made plans to honeymoon in Paris a long time ago. But because of the timing of the birth of all our children, we hadn’t been able to make it happen. Until now. Paris is the one place in the world Bree wants to visit. It’s been at the top of her bucket list since she was a child. I’m just finally glad we’re going to be able to get her there.

“I’ve already got everything set up with Esme and Margaret—the children will be well cared for,” I tell her. “And I’ve already emailed all your clients to let them know you’ll be be out of town for a little while.”

“A little while?”

I nod. “I’ve got a full itinerary set up. We’ll be in Paris for a week and then we’ll be moving on from there,” I say. “And the rest of our schedule I am going to keep a secret. I want to keep some bit of surprise and intrigue—and leverage for sexual favors.”

“Baby, you’re taking me to Paris. I don’t think you’re going to need leverage,” she says. “I think I’m going to be willing to do anything and everything without hesitation.”

“Good to know. I’m going to keep that in mind.”

“Please do.”

We share a laugh as she continues to straddle me. Bree leans down and gives me a proper kiss then slides off and cuddles up next to my body as she lays on her chest. I idly stroke her hair and simply relish the feeling of having her clinging to me. Everything seems absolutely perfect. My wife. My children. And my life. It was a description I never, not in a million years, thought I’d ever be able to apply to my life. But here we are. and I’ve never been happier.

I will never know how I managed to live so many years of my life without my baby girl by my side. But it doesn’t matter now since I’m never going to have to worry about living another day without her by my side.

She, my family, us… mine. Forever and always. That’s a promise I’llalwayskeep.

The End.
