“Definitely, see you then.”

Frank takes me home and I go straight to bed. I feel sick and dizzy. I thought my morning sickness was starting to go but obviously not. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Damien is there when I wake up. Sat on the bed at the side of me watching me sleep.

“How are you feeling now? Do I need to call the doctor?”

I sit up in bed, I feel like the room is spinning.

“I still feel a little off.” I lie. “But a lot better than I did. I am still rather tired though, so I am going to stay in bed is that ok?”

Damien leans in and kisses my head.

“Of course, whatever you need. Can I get you anything?”

“I’m fine, I just need sleep.”

I lie back down and close my eyes. The room is spinning. I feel like I’ve had a night on the town and drank too many vodkas. Pregnancy is crazy.

The rest of the week I feel fine. On Thursday after yoga we all meet in the café and have lunch. I am really enjoying being with other expecting mums. I know Damien is pleased I have made some new friends. He worries too much about me. We are all having such a good time sharing our pregnancy stories. We take a few selfies as girls do and I send one to Damien so he can see I am ok and enjoying myself.

Damien

Bella’s at pregnancy yoga today but I decide to work from my office at the salon as its near to the church hall where the class is. We are making good progress with Cain. We have found his hide out and only missed him by a couple of hours. The end is near.

I’m busy on the phone when Mike comes in without knocking. I know this means there’s an issue that can’t wait. I end the call and look at Mike. He is holding another package.

“Another one?”

“Yes boss, but this one is addressed to you.” Mike hands me the parcel. It is the same packaging and label as the ones Bella has been receiving but this one is indeed addressed to me. I open the package cautiously. Again, it’s a plastic vacuum sealed, blood filled packet. But as I move it between my fingers, I see something inside. The instant I see what it is, I feel sick. It’s an animal foetus. I pick up my phone and ring Frank.

“Do you have eyes on Bella.”

“I have visual on the live security footage. She is sat with the girls from the yoga class having lunch. Everything seems ok boss.”

While Frank speaks my phone pings, it’s a message from Bella. A photo of all the girls together laughing and smiling…… I stare at the photo in disbelief. It can’t be. There’s no way.

“Frank, get Bella out of there right now! Tell her there’s been a family emergency and get her in the car immediately. I’m on my way.”

I run through the hotel and out onto the street. I see red and power through the streets with no concern for anyone else. I must get to Bella. I hope I am not too late. The church hall is only a few blocks away but it feels like an eternity trying to get to the end. I eventually see the car, Bella is in the window looking confused at the sight of me running full throttle in my 3 piece suit. Diving into the back seat. I pull Bella into my arms.

“Frank, get us to the hospital. Now!” Frank accelerates as he pulls out, pushing us back into our seats.

“Damien, what is going on? You are scaring me.”

“How do you feel?”

“What? How do I feel? I feel confused and worried. Why are we going to the hospital?”

“Do you have any pain? Or sickness?”

“Well, I have just started to feel a little dizzy and sick again, like I did on Monday. But other than that, I’m fine, no pain, nothing. I really don’t need to go to the hospital.”

“On Monday what did you do?”

“I met Anna from yoga, I told you about her. We went shopping and then for lunch.”

“That photo you sent me earlier. Show me Anna on there.” I hold my phone out to Bella, she points to the woman sitting next to her.

“S**T!”
