I didn’t need a written invitation. I pulled back and gave her one hard spank. She gasped and tightened around me again. Fuck, just when I thought I’d gotten an ounce of control, Cindy Lawless made me see stars.

“Come for me,” I begged her. “Come on, baby.”

“Luke…”

Cindy tightened around me again and let out a low, glorious moan as she came. I was seconds behind her, coming so hard my vision went white. For a moment, everything felt perfect and I laid there, wrapped up in Cindy Lawless, never wanting to move, ever again.

Cindy collapsed on top of me and I slid out of her. She rested her head on my chest, listening to my heart calm down. I held her there, running my fingers through her thick, brown hair, my eyelids getting heavy.

“You’re the only one, Cindy,” I murmured.

“The only one what?”

“The only one I’m ever going to let in my bed again.”

“Oh yeah?” she teased. She pressed her lips against my skin.

“The only one I’m ever going to let in.”

She kissed me again. Right over my heart this time.

“And the only one I’m ever going to love,” I whispered.

She was quiet for a moment, and I worried that I’d crossed some kind of line. Finally, she shifted so she was back on top of me, looking me in the eye curiously.

“What?” I wondered. “Did I just wreck everything by telling you I love you?”

“No.”

“Then what’s with the face?”

“Nothing, I just always kind of imagined what you telling me you loved me would feel like.”

“And it didn’t measure up to the fantasy?” I asked, a little disappointed.

“No, that’s not it at all,” she said quickly. “I just always thought that it would make everything between us feel different. Like it was going to be some big, ceremonious thing that changed us. But it’s not.”

“Is that a bad thing?”

“No.” She kissed my cheek and rested her head against my shoulder. “After everything we’ve been through, theI love youpart should be easy.”

“It was. For one of us.”

“Huh?” she asked.

“You haven’t said it back yet.”

She swatted my chest. “Are you fucking serious?”

“Yes.”

“I feel like I’ve told you I love you like six hundred times since I’ve been back in Blue Creek,” she said.

“No way,” I taunted her. “You’ve yelled it. You’ve grumbled it. You’ve told me that youused tobe in love with me. And you’ve written it down on paper.” I shifted us, so that we were face to face and kept my arms around her. “But you’ve never looked me square in the eye and saidLuke Kane, I love you.”

I expected Cindy to laugh, but her smile turned serious quickly.

“I love you, Luke Kane,” she said.
